On Saturday, October 10th, 2026, at 11:50AM EDT, the Libra Moon catches up with the Libra Sun at 17-degrees giving us this month's New Moon - our annual New Moon in lovely/partnership-focused LIBRA.
Libra New Moons are about new ways to partner and pull new energy into existing relationships. Personal and professional. New people/new connections/new situations. New chapters and new beginnings in legal battles and relationship imbalances. New love - not the deep kind necessarily but the social kind that gets us invited to coffee and walks in the park. (although Libra ruler Venus is in Scorpio, so that might be the case or at least until she turns around and with her retrograde old loves can come back for some kind of closure). New peace and harmony? Maybe. Sometimes. New money? Again, this is all a bit tricky this year with Venus backpedaling through Scorpio and so much hidden stuff coming up to be seen and worked through. But maybe, yes. New negotiations. Yes. For sure. What is fair now? What is balanced now? What does justice look like now? Lots of legal issues, especially involving women, are in the headlines.
Look to your natal Libra house (17-degrees) for the kind of theme you will be working with personally. Then we consider the general Libra themes (relationship, partnership, balance, justice, women, beauty), our natal relationship with Venus and we look at the event chart for the time of the New Moon, to see how this all might play out.
(and because Libra connects to PEACE NEGOTIATIONS and such we will take a look in Part II at the charts of Trump, Netanyahu, Iran, Putin, etc - all very much activated at this New Moon)
So, what have we got this month? The Moon in Libra is conjunct the Sun. They sit on 17-degrees Libra, EXACTLY conjunct asteroid Thereus and right on fixed star Seginus. The New Moon sextiles Jupiter in fiery Leo and squares Ceres in Cancer - both are applying. This Moon is ruled by Venus, moving backward through Scorpio and in an EXACT square to Mars in Leo. Both planets are working their way through LONG CHAPTERS. The New Moon opposes Vesta in Aries.
Libra wants balance, Venus retrograde in Scorpio is digging underneath the surface/stirring the sh*t, Mars is making desire/anger impossible to ignore, Vesta wants courage and Ceres wants to know what we are protecting or what we need to feel safe. She can also trigger some smother-mothering here and insatiable needs. Keep this in mind.
The Moon is conjunct the Sun in Libra. On the same page. In the same place. A new phase begins. Within relationships. With beauty. For women. With complicated negotiations. With justice. With balance. With Venus retrograde in Scorpio the stuff we don't want to look at (from the past) will come up to be LOOKED AT. And the stuff about women nobody wants to talk about - well, we will be. The New Moon itself is not the problem. THE PROBLEM IS WHAT IT EXPOSES.
I am going to skip right to Thereus. We have talked about Thereus before - the bear hunter. And we find him not only exact now with the New Moon/Sun, but also on fixed star Seginus - the bear watcher. How interesting that the bear hunter arrives at the permanent home of the bear watcher just as the Moon and Sun do, too! The mythology of centaur Thereus is told by Ovid and he doesn't give Thereus an elaborate story. He gives us just one disturbing image - Thereus is the centaur who takes bears from the Thessalian mountains alive and angry and carries them home. This is almost more evocative because there isn't a complicated biography/back-story to get lost in. He takes something wild out of its natural habitat. He takes it from its den. He doesn't kill the bear. He doesn't tame the bear. He carries it away - alive, wounded/struggling and angry. And, importantly, he displays his strength by being able to carry something powerful that does not want to be carried.
This is not an easy thing for Libra because Libra is concerned with the social field. How do we exist together? What is fair? What is acceptable? What happens between us? What happens when private experience enters the public realm? And Thereus here says - something has been brought into the room. This is kind of re-inforcing Venus's deep dive (to me) and her square to Mars in Leo.
SOMETHING HAS BEEN BROUGHT INTO THE ROOM. This somehow applies to all of us now. What do we know? What did we just find out?
(if you look at the collective 'women/Venus stories' right now, they are not pretty - a mother who kills her children, a woman who kills another woman and whose body then refuses to die, a woman with a complicated story who claims rape, a woman in power who demands a bribe, a female 'patient zero' plague death in Russia happening at the same time Taylor Swift releases a single called 'patient zero'- all very Venus in Scorpio storylines)
The Moon/Sun/Thereus are squaring Ceres in Cancer. The Mama Bear herself. That's almost a literal mythic conversation between the den/home, the mother, the vulnerable thing being protected, the outside world, the social/public arena. In Cancer, Ceres wants to protect what is vulnerable. Thereus violates the home/the boundary of the den.
And Libra is asking us to negotiate what happens after the boundary has been crossed. This isn't a Libra Moon so much asking - How can we find peace? How can we get along? As much as it is a Libra New Moon asking - What kind of peace is possible after something has already violated the boundary? Libra can sometimes mistake peace for the absence of conflict. But this chart seems to say that conflict is already present. The question is what we do with it.
The ruler of this lunation is Venus at 7-degrees Scorpio, retrograde. And Venus is in an EXACT (to the minute) square to Mars in Leo. Libra says - let's negotiate. Venus retrograde in Scorpio says - but first we're going back into the place where something still hurts. And then Mars in Leo says - And I am not going to pretend I don't want what I want. RELATIONSHIPS ARE TRICKY. So are women's issues.
The relational material is not superficial now. This is not the charming, pink-painted Venusian Libra of "Can't we all just get along?" fame. This is - what do I actually feel? What do I actually want? What am I angry about? What have I swallowed to preserve peace? What happens when desire, resentment, pride, hurt or anger can no longer remain private?
Venus retrograde in Scorpio is particularly unwilling to accept a superficial resolution. She wants to know what is hidden. She can be obsessive, jealous and not so nice. AND SHE IS RE-OPENING SOMETHING THAT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. Squaring Mars, the problem is that our action may come from frustration, wounded pride or competing desires rather than a clear understanding of what's really needed. There is pressure here for something to change, but how that pressure finds expression is a whole other kettle of fish (yes, I am talking like my grandma again). It may come through a clash of wills, a struggle over control or someone else's ambition/need for the spotlight. We may find ourselves reacting to another person's demands or maybe confronting our own desires, pride and frustrations that can no longer be ignored.
The New Moon opposes Vesta. Vesta represents devotion, the things we dedicate ourselves to and the inner flame we refuse to let go out. Retrograde in Aries, she turns our attention inward - what am I fighting for? Where have I surrendered too much of myself, or where has my commitment become an obsession? Opposing the Libra New Moon, she challenges us to consider whether the compromises we make for the sake of harmony are costing us our integrity. Sometimes peace requires compromise and sometimes it requires the courage to stop compromising. The challenge now is going to be - knowing the difference.
I think that BEAR/BEAR KILLER/BEAR WATCHER/MAMA BEAR theme stands out strongest to me. Secretary of Defense War, Gemini Pete Hegseth, has just announced that the death by firing squad sentence of a federal prisoner/mass shooter (the first in decades) will be a televised public execution. Hegseth has a natal Thereus (bully bear hunter centaur) EXACTLY conjunct his Sun-ruling Mercury in Cancer - giving the hunt a voice/making power into a spectacle (right between the U.S. Jupiter and Sun - who are we as a nation and where are the ethics of all this) - and this New Moon is tight on his natal Pluto (death/and the bear-watcher) and tightly squares his Gemini Sun. Hegseth's North Node of Fate at 22-degrees Leo (already an important degree known to empower and take down kings) is highly activated by August's Eclipse right now and will be again in April when Mars joins Jupiter and the South Node at Mars direct station here. There is this whole theme of 'power over' vs 'responsibility for' playing out big time right now in the U.S. chart as multiple political/ethical questions are flying at us in the lead-up to the midterm elections as the country quite literally is being made to see what is actually happening underneath.
The good news with this Moon is that the New Moon sextiles beneficial Jupiter in fiery Leo. There are opportunities within partnerships when we do the brave/generous thing. Opportunities to expand/make something bigger/become more visible - see Mars in Leo Part I - HERE. This sextile is the Moon's closing aspect in Libra, so good news for opportunistic endings for events New Moon connected. Luna then immediately squares Pluto from Scorpio though - so power struggles are back and that transit (Moon in Scorpio) ends with a square to that same Jupiter we were just making nice with, so ... it's all quite a mixed bag. But then again, it usually is.
Can we create peace without requiring the wounded thing to stop making noise? Hubs just looked over my shoulder and said, "what the heck does that mean?" :)
Well, most of us tend to like peace. We like resolution, civility and the feeling that things are back where they belong. When conflict erupts, our instinct might be to make it stop. We want people to calm down, move on, forgive, compromise or find a way to get along. But sometimes, in our urgency to restore peace, we become more concerned with the disturbance caused by the wound than with the wound itself!
Sometimes the path to peace does not mean 'protecting our peace'. Sometimes it involves listening to something we would rather not hear. Sometimes it means tolerating anger, acknowledging harm or allowing an uncomfortable truth to remain in the room while we work out what to do about it. That doesn't mean every expression of anger is justified or that harmful behavior should be excused. It just means that we should not confuse the way pain is expressed with the question of whether the pain deserves to be taken seriously.
The goal isn't to let the wounded thing make noise forever. It is to stop demanding silence as the price of belonging.
I hope something here is helpful. Back with Part II when we will look at the major world players/wars and bring the astro I have been avoiding there up to date ... excuse typos and stuff, too tired to reread right now ...
xo all
Keep in mind we are in a long and intense journey with Venus as she makes her last Venus star point in Scorpio in our lifetime - we won't have the full picture until around the middle of November or sometime near Thanksgiving.
