mars into libra and august 2025 | the dog days of summer are awake and howling - part I

As soon as Mars enters Libra next Thursday, August 7th and for a few days after (and we will have to see if we feel this even earlier as Mars/the trigger tends to go off early/jump the gun) it is game on - he/we will WAKE UP the outer planets all so perfectly aligned right now.

Mars (our masculine energy in our feminine energy's sign) will oppose Saturn and Neptune and trine Uranus and Pluto - all at the same time. I can't remember anything like this!

The oppositions will test us, and the trines will empower and enlighten us. We are in it now folks.

Aries/Libra oppositions bring in themes of - me vs we, war vs diplomacy, going it alone vs cooperation, conflict as a mirror, relationship as a mirror, learning through the OTHER. Saturn/Neptune pull in themes of idealism in tension with compromise, stability/structure/authority in tension with compromise, etc.

Mars is not so comfortable in the sign of Libra. As ruler of Libra's polarity sign of Aries, Mars is considered in "his fall" here, because Mars can't be all Mars-y - independent, only thinking about himself, charging ahead, etc. In Libra, other people MUST be taken into consideration. With Mars in Libra things like diplomacy and cooperation and fairness and AESTHETICS are necessary. Direct action is challenging.

Saturn and Neptune stand across the sky. Oppositions are not just tense like squares, but relational. They imply confrontation, projection, mirroring, the need for integration and can bring culminations and endings. To me this whole thing looks something like - WAKE UP, we are really all just in a relationship with ourselves :) But I am probably getting ahead of myself with this ...

Mars in Libra wants clear and fair ACTION. Neptune in Aries blurs and idealizes/brings us the spiritual warrior, the martyr, the illusion of the hero. Maybe we are confronting what it means to be right or righteous. Maybe we (and our relationships) are waking up via DISILLUSIONMENT or maybe the opposite is happening, and the INSPIRATION through the opposition or ending is waking us up. Maybe these are both the same thing and happening at the same time.

Saturn in Aries is about self-discipline/the responsibilities we are not ready for. Remember, Mars in Libra wants clear and fair action. He wants diplomacy and cooperation and to make things more BEAUTIFUL, so how does he fair against this Saturn who requires patience and trial and error and for things to be battle-tested and EARN THEIR STRIPES.

Mars wants/needs to act (Mars always needs to act whatever sign he is in). Saturn says, "wait, be responsible". Neptune says, "how do you know this is even real? what are you doing?". And these two are both moving backward and covering old ground. This is somehow an old story/we have our feet in the past here. This double opposition/super powerful creates friction, disillusionment, and energetic BLOCKAGE.

Mars doesn't know whether to fight, surrender, or wait.

IT'S A PRESSURE COOKER and I would expect the world to be all stirred up.

The good news - Mars is not alone here. He is making a smooth trine (brakes off) to Pluto in Aquarius AND Uranus in Gemini. Trines are resources/allies - the stuff we have in our back pocket when we need it like that extra twenty in our wallet.

The trine with Uranus can cut through the fog/stalemate via a breakthrough, breakdown or break up. This is a sudden idea/insight/CONVERSATION. The trine to Pluto gives us the ability to penetrate with precision/to detach/to go deep/to uncover/to be empowered and transformed via INTENSITY.

Mars is cornered by CONFUSION and PRESSURE (Neptune and Saturn), but the planets/energies are ANSWERING TO HIM. He (as we) has more power than he thinks he does. Uranus and Pluto come in with - USE YOUR HEAD/be smart about this, use your INFLUENCE, don't be afraid of what has been stuffed/hidden, think NEWER.

We are pushed to take action - and keep in mind, Mars is in Libra for six weeks and this is the way this transit STARTS - but not via brute force like Mars wants to do and not JUST via charm/diplomacy/cooperation as Mars in Libra usually does (because Mars can't beat Saturn and Neptune from Libra just by doing his Libra), but instead by - evolving the way we take action within our relationships/Libra house theme, radical honesty, unexpected breakthroughs when we let go of outdated ego stuff and drop what we are carrying that is "dead" - note Saturn, Neptune and Pluto are ALL retrograde. And any opposition to Mars in Libra will probably involve something around self vs other, action vs diplomacy, will vs compromise. We need to, and can be, SMART with all of this. And not take it all too personally. This story is bigger than we are.

EXAMPLE FOR SCORPIO/SCORPIO RISING - let's say you are a Scorpio rising with Mars in your 12th house and Saturn/Neptune in your 6th. Mars in the 12th is indirect, maybe secretive, motivated by nostalgia, guilt, hidden stories, maybe a bit self-sabotagey. Mars wants peace and fairness and partnership, but very old stories that Mars might not ever remember are pulled into this chapter, so maybe Mars is tired/exhausted, burned out, maybe from trying to keep the peace. Saturn and Neptune in the 6th house speak of a heavy load of daily responsibilities or daily responsibilities feeling like a heavy load. Health issues can activate. So, Mars in the 12th wants to escape/check-out, but Saturn/Neptune demands you keep going or face the consequences. And if you keep going when you can't there can also be consequences. Your double-edged sword is work vs rest. You may feel tired or unwell without clear medical reasons which is kind of classic when Neptune fogs the 6th and Mars is buried in the 12th. Saturn can bring real physical consequences for inner conflicts not addressed, so you won't want to bottle things up. You will need some time alone and some downtime and can use this to get clear on your motives. Mars in the 12th is a good time to explore spiritual or psychological work. Meditation. Journaling can be helpful/healthful, too. Bottom line - Pluto and Uranus are on our side, deep change and sudden insights are available - we are not stuck/opposed/over - we are TRANSFORMING.

Ultimately - SPOILER ALERT here - Mars cannot beat Saturn and Neptune

(but he is faster and will get past them).

He/we must learn to work with their Aries fire (and again this is easier because they are answering to him which says we have more power in whatever situation we are in then we think we do), respect their dual purpose here (to make the unreal real and the real unreal) while offering active balance, civility, diplomacy, beauty AND integrating Uranus - the change, breakthroughs, tech, new story/new words - and Pluto - the power, death/transformation, intensity. This all sounds more complicated than it is because we can't miss the opposition and the trines will just fall right into place.

There are also some asteroids involved, and we will talk about them in the Full Moon post, because, yes, as if we don't have enough on our plate already, right in the middle of all this Mars-stuff, we get a BIG Full Moon in Aquarius!

We need to take care of our energy now - these aren't surface level transits. With the inner and outer and middle planets all involved we know we have something BIG going on. NOTE - as this all unwinds a bit Venus will catch up with Jupiter in Cancer, so something is almost surely ending well here. Keep that in mind.

Back with the weekly tomorrow.
