Mother's Day (the one day a year we moms get to put our feet up and be waited on hand and foot by hubbies and little munchkins - this is far more important than candy or flowers because it is all about the appreciation!) is fast approaching. Let's see, Im not a mom yet, and wasnt when I was 5 but I still remember on mother's day when i was 5, my dad gave my mom some jewelry and gave me a small heart shaped ceramic box with a red top and inside was a necklace made of little red plastic hearts. I still have and cherish them both.

The nicest gift I ever received on Mother's day...When after a Mother's day as usual with only guys around my Mother In Law hugged me and said "Thank you for today. Without you it wouldn't have been much of a day" and I hugged her back telling her "I can say the same thing back" My mother was no longer alive and it was my pleasure to celebrate the day with her.
I lost my mom too, only 2 years ago, so it is a bittersweet time for me. My husband and son always make up for it though.
My favorite gift is when I get coupons for the most wonderful things, like taking the dog out when it's below freezing!

The favorite Mother's day present I received, was given to me bright and early @ 6 am. I couldn't open my eyes, but the kids were so excited with their gift bags right under my nose. In the bag were house slippers, a dophin key ring and a ring that says "Mom"

My favorite Mother's Day gifts have been and continue to be the handmade cards from my daughter. She is a budding artist and fashion designer with creativity out the wazoo. I find it fascinating to see how her creativity and artistry has matured and evolved over the years.
I think the best gift I gave my mom was a book she was looking for for over 30 years, in which her favorite uncle, who perished in the holocaust is mentioned. It was as moving to give it as it was (I guess) to receive it.

My favortie Mother's Day gift was when I was in the hospital with my husband for 2 weeks and my boys were staying with my mom. She brought them to see mn mother's day nad they brought flowers. I remember watvhing them walk through the parking lot holding them. they were trying to hide them behind their backs...but they were too big and stuck out on both sides ;o}
The favorite mother's day gift I've ever given (as I am not a mother yet, I can't pick a favorite I've received :) was handmade for my boyfriend's mother... we took a picture frame and removed the glass. We printed a picture of a beautiful tree in a sunset and printed it on canvas, and mounted that on foam board, that we then put in the frame. We found Pins with little enamel leaves on the tip, and took itty bitty mini picture frames of each family member and strung them with wire. Each family member had their own little frame and hung at the appropriate place on this family tree. She cried when we gave it to her and it now occupies a proud spot in the living room :)
This is so beautiful, and I love how you have that little vial with the pins in it hanging on the frame.
The best Mother's Day gifts I made for my mom and mother in law were little hidden pens. I secured a silk flower to a pen with floral tape, painted a flower pot, stuffed the pot with styrofoam and covered it with moss, then put the pen into the styrofoam so it looked like a flower in the pot. I fancied it up with a ribbon and some other things. My mom and MIL loved them, especially because they were decorative but also were practical, especially when there was no pen to be found in the house.

My favorite present so far has been handmade cards by my four stepdaughters. It meant more to me than anything I have ever received. We worked hard, creating a special present for their own mother and i never realized they were all making something for me as well. Needless to say, I was tearful mess.
