Mars in Sagittarius has just opposed Uranus retrograde in Gemini. The U.S. elections did not disappoint (well, some were disappointed, I am talking astrologically here) - disruption, surprise, and something new. We have the first female Democratic governors in both New Jersey and Virginia, and the first Democratic Socialist - and first Muslim - Mayor of New York City. It was a night of firsts. Here in New Jersey, where I can speak from experience and say we flip back and forth between Republican Governors and Dems - the Dem winner was definitely not a sure-thing, the results almost certainly a repudiation of Trump-era chaos (we normally would have gone against the incumbent party with inflation, etc and voted in a Republican) because remember, Trump IS Uranus with his Sun/Uranus/North Node signature.
(Mars and Uranus will meet EXACTLY on the United States 250th birthday next summer - July 4th, 2026, at 3 degrees Gemini, tight on Vance's North Node of Fate and joined by asteroid Atlantis - wish he didn't keep popping up! Vance will also have transiting Venus - and asteroid Apollo - EXACT on his natal Venus. Have I said 2026 is going to be LIT, well, now I have.)
Let's take a look at Mercury. I suspect he/she actually kind of runs EVERYTHING :)
Mercury is about to go retrograde, sliding from early Sagittarius back into Scorpio (I wouldn’t sling those arrows - intentions, words or plans - just yet, folks, because our target could change!).
Mercury gives us a brief taste of those bluer Sagittarius skies - confidence returning, optimism stirring -but then says, “Hold up. We missed something back in the deep waters of Scorpio.” We can’t just move ahead from here. Maybe we don’t have all the information. Maybe our beliefs won’t hold water after all. Expect delays.
If we look at the repeating aspects Mercury will make during his back and forth from 20 degrees Scorpio to 6 degrees Sagittarius, we can get some idea of what this retrograde will be about. 20 degrees Scorpio is the rising degree of the Kirk assassination chart - and, yes, I know I keep bringing this up because it REALLY MATTERS. More than it appears right now.
Repeating and notable apsects Mercury retrograde is going to make:
1. Mercury conjunct Mars - this isn't really a repeating aspect, because Mars will have moved on, but it's close enough to be worth paying attention to. Next Wednesday, Mercury is going to meet up with Mars at 6 degrees Sagittarius. This is the degree of Mercury's station, so he/she has been sitting here WAITING for Mars to get here. Mercury gives Mars some news/information/conversation - Mars continues forward with it and Mercury BACKS UP.
Mercury will be re-vising, re-viewing, re-thinking, ie retrograde, so re-peating something. Mars in Sag brings fresh energy/optimism/confidence via action, but Mercury as the ruler of Sagittarius polarity sign of Gemini isn't strong here plus again, we are re-viewing, re-vising, re-miniscing - whatever this backward thing is for us.
We are taking action on old information, old ideas. Something from the past. Just keep in mind that even as we are taking the action, background issues are SHIFTING.
After their meeting next week, they will not be on the same page again (Mercury/Mars conjunction) until late January 2026 when BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING/FALLING INTO PLACE. Mercury will meet Mars, sextile Saturn and trine Uranus. The Sun will be sextiling Neptune and Venus will be conjunct Pluto! This is all from late Cappy to early Aquarius! I put the aspects at the bottom of this post.
2. Mercury sextile Pluto (Oct 30, Nov 12, Dec 12) - Empowerment/intimacy OPPORTUNITIES
This is a conversation that doesn’t end the first time we have it. Mercury, the messenger, is making three passes over Pluto in Aquarius - once direct, once retrograde, and then direct again - giving us a chance to deepen and empower our understanding.
October 30 (Mercury direct in Sagittarius, Pluto direct in Aquarius) - the first message arrives, so maybe a truth is spoken or glimpsed. Maybe bold, maybe uncomfortable but it opens a door. Maybe here is where we see the potential for new thinking, new systems and new connections - whatever this is for us.
November 12 (Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius) - now we go back and we know the story is going to deepen because Mercury is headed back to Scorpio/Pluto's sign - the underworld. We may revisit an idea, negotiation or conversation that needs more honesty, research, or psychological insight. Something we thought we understood may have hidden motives or deeper implications.
December 12 (both direct again) - finally, some clarity on this. What began as a hunch or half-formed idea in late October becomes integrated, embodied, or ready for application. We speak from a place of power rather than reaction.
Because Pluto is in the collective's sign of Aquarius, these sextiles are not just personal. They’re collective. They are about how we share knowledge, how ideas that empower take shape and how truth can empower groups. Keep in mind sextiles create opportunistic connections, but do not force us to make them, so pay attention.
3. Mercury Opposite Uranus (Oct 29, Nov 19, Dec 10) - BREAKS
This one’s more challenging. Mercury in late Scorpio faces off with Uranus in Taurus three times - BREAKTHROUGH, BREAKDOWN, BREAK-UP.
Oct 29 (Mercury direct, Uranus retro) - surprising news, Information shakes the ground a bit. We may see what’s been hidden or hear something that changes how we think or plan. Maybe we react.
Nov 19 (both retrograde) - now we go inward with the data/life is an inside job. This time it’s not about reacting but re-thinking. Or maybe the change changes! What does this disruption mean? What do we really believe beneath the surface story? Conversations or situations from late October might replay, but this time with more emotional honesty or more research or context.
Dec 10 (both direct) - what once shocked us now maybe it makes sense. We’ve integrated the change/disruption/insight and can RESPOND from clarity rather than chaos.
Because this opposition happens across Scorpio and Taurus, the tension sits between what we hold and what we are ready to release/let die or see that is dead. Intimacy, merged money, debts, inheritances, life and death situations, power struggles.
4 and 5. Mercury Trine Neptune & Saturn (from Scorpio to Pisces) - BRAKES OFF
While Mercury’s retrograde brings twists and rethinks, these repeating trines to Saturn and Neptune in Pisces offer softer, stabilizing energy. They remind us that what’s changing on the surface has deeper emotional and spiritual roots. The North Node is in Pisces, too - this is happening for a reason we can trust.
With Saturn - Mercury trine Saturn grounds the story. Makes it real. Our words carry weight so commitments and decisions and what we are talking/thinking about matters. Even if we’re revising or retracing steps, we are also maturing our message - testing it against reality, seeing what will actually hold up. Scorpio/Pisces adds emotional gravity and wisdom, so that whatever we are digging up feels both soul-deep and workable.
With Neptune - Mercury trine Neptune open smooth flows with intuition and imagination. Insights flow through dreams, art, empathy, and silence. It’s the softer side of the retrograde. The faith beneath the facts. While Uranus brings mental lightning, Neptune brings calm water, reminding us that not everything has to be figured out logically.
Together, these trines create an emotional anchor in what could otherwise feel like a mentally overstimulating retrograde. We’re learning to trust our perceptions and find a balance between intellect and intuition.
By the time Mercury clears his shadow and by the time these repeating aspects finish up by the end of this year - we’ve not only changed our minds, but probably more importantly we have changed our understanding.

What is happening this third week of January?! Cappy mastery, resolution, the last big push? Aqua tangible reform, stability THROUGH change? These degrees are all over China's chart BTW, the U.S. Pluto, lots of other big charts.
