As soon as Saturn entered Aries on February 13th, he started applying to a sextile to Pluto. Back then our main focus was on his meeting with Neptune (exact a week later), but this sextile is HUGE NEWS, too.
Everything starts with a conjunction - the meeting of two planetary bodies at the exact same degree - and the current Saturn/Pluto cycle started back on January 12, 2020 when these two giants met. So much was going on astrologically it was unbelievable and we all know what happened. I wrote may posts about this timeframe - some are linked to HERE.
Time ran out. Power was cemented/stability was destroyed. The Saturn/Pluto conjunction gave us a very defined "before" and "after". Life probably gave us the gentlest way through these energies. The meeting was in the sign of Capricorn - patriarchal conditioning, fathers, leaders, ambition, old people.
After the conjunction/the meeting/the merging - and this applies to every time two bodies meet, so for example with the New Moon, which is the meeting of the Moon with the Sun/their conjunction, we next get, a few days later, a WAXING SEXTILE. An opening sextile. An opportunity we can use to move the conjunction chapter forward. Now because Saturn and Pluto do not move anywhere near as fast as the Sun and the Moon, we get this OPPORTUNITY six years later. Because this opportunity is more rare, it is also MORE POWERFUL.
Because sextiles are soft aspects the power is sort of IN OUR HANDS. And this is the good news and this is the bad news because nothing will happen unless we DO SOMETHING (unlike a trine where things fall into place or run off a cliff). Sextiles are considered 'positive' aspects, but the problem with them that I see is that unlike the challenging square (that comes next and FORCES OUR HAND, in this Pluto/Saturn story the square happens in June 2028 with Pluto in Aquarius and Saturn in Taurus - this will probably be about money and resources and the planet and we will all be pushed to figure that out) sometimes without the push we don't do anything.
Not taking action with smooth aspects is one way we can assure ourselves of a life that is a series of PUSHES. Tension/frustration/headaches/roadblocks. We aren't in the right place when the square hits and will need a painful pivot, and we are talking about two MALEFIC PLANETS here, that life will be only too happy to give us.
So, let's not wait for that push. This is why you read/study astrology - to know these cycles and if you do this with your own chart you will be amazed at how accurate the set-up of big moments is.
Collectively THIS is one of those moments. What we do now - the actions we take, and in particular the things we INITIATE at the end of March and through the beginning of April, MATTERS.
Sextiles ask us - are you ready to work with what was set in motion? In this case - who are we becoming now that the old world has cracked?
Think about the random chance of us getting a TIME RUNS OUT/new story begins, but not before we literally have to RISE FROM OUR SWEATY DEATHBED SHEETS in late Capricorn (the peak of ambition/goals/the top of the mountain) and now getting the opportunity to take advantage of what we have learned from all that happening at the BEGINNING OF ARIES, 5 degrees Aries - the first decan of Aries, the first sign, so the first third of the first sign, the VERY BEGINNING - the decan of natural leaders, trailblazers and GO BOLDLY - as we once again have to rise from our sweaty deathbed sheets.
Does this sound random? I don't think so!
And when we get the Saturn/Pluto sextile (March 29th, but in play now and unwinding through early April, by the end of April Saturn will have reached 9 degrees Aries and this will be less potent), Saturn is also conjunct the Sun. Making sure whatever is happening is VISIBLE. Collectively this is about leaders and leadership and strategy and war, but this is happening in our own lives, too.
By the end of July - July 27th - Saturn will reach 15 degrees of Aries and he will station retrograde until December 11th, 2026, when he will station direct at 7 degrees Aries, so we will be in some way back to where we are in the middle of April, but OLDER AND WISER. This is echoing the "this is a BIG DEAL/big part of 2026". So, in the middle of December we will be revisiting what happens in the middle of April. So basically, whatever starts happening in the middle of April will be the whole point of the Saturn retrograde which will resolve in the middle of December. Then Saturn will continue through Aries and he will get back to 15 degrees Aries - where we turn around at the end of July - on March 24th, 2027, so that's when we start covering new territory with this Saturn/Pluto story.
So RIGHT NOW, really, really matters. What we chose to do - through our actions and with our body. Where we sign on the dotted line. What we take responsibility for or avoid the responsibility of. This is Saturn, so we know this is serious. This is an OBLIGATION. What is the daunting reality in front of us? And what actions are we going to take to ACCEPT THIS DUTY? And if we step into this fully committed - and yes, this involves risk and sacrifice and there is no guarantee here - we must be ready for a truly revolutionary (Pluto in AQUARIUS) undertaking. This is as big/lifechanging as 2020, but our hand isn't forced here. The reins are in our hands with the sextile.
The work we commit to now, by this time next year WILL GIVE US RESULTS. If the Saturn/Pluto wiped you out (2020), well, here and then - the spring of 2027 - is where the tables turn. But the effort/action starts NOW.
Or we can just skip the sextile and wait for the harsher square in the summer of 2028.
Now for Pluto's part of this - because he is what makes this another "before" and "after" transformational life and death ie life-changing (sometimes literally life and death, but most often figuratively) storyline, well, he will station retrograde on May 7th. Pluto retrogrades for about half the year. In the time between Pluto's station in early May and Saturn's station in late July - there will be much for us to do.
So, Saturn in Aries says take responsibility for self-definition/who you are/what you do and Pluto in Aquarius says deep transformation comes through innovation, what we haven't done before, alliances and shared vision. Collectively the opportunity looks like - stepping into a NEW IDENTITY in relationship to a new kind of collective. Yes, this is a nailbiter. The echo from 2020 is probably the loss of external structure/elder energy - now we (even if we are an elder!) BECOME THE STRUCTURE.
Since the 2020 conjunction we have been made to recognize - what structures are actually real? what must end? what cannot be sustained? and now the waxing sextile asks us - NOW THAT YOU HAVE SEEN, what will you do about it? And there is the subtle tension of Saturn in Aries wanting decisive action now and Pluto in Aquarius moving through slow and deliberate metamorphosis. So, as we have already talked about - action comes before clarity.
Because it's not a fully formed thing yet. We are ACTING INTO SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T EXIST YET. Let's stop thinking about - what's going to happen and start thinking about how to work with what was set in motion.
This waxing sextile between Saturn in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius is the first opening in the story that began in 2020 - where the collapse of old systems now quietly offers us the chance to take self-directed action in building collectively what comes next, even before we fully understand what that next world will be.
This is an opportunity to rebuild ourselves with strength and endurance and truly restructure our lives. THE INVITATION IS NOW. So, what is life offering you?
I hope something here is helpful :) And we should keep in mind that as Pluto retrogrades he will be making another sextile - this time with Neptune (old dreams, old graces, old visions, old creativity, old delusions, old addictions) also retrograde. This will be exact in July as Saturn turns around. We have never seen this before. And Uranus will be in Gemini and talking to everyone, too. This is all absolutely unprecedented. More nail biter energy - things can go very right or very wrong. There are big question marks, but it is unquestionable that HUGE soul-level transformations are happening.

Check where Mars is in your natal and progressed charts. Mars rules Aries and so Saturn and Neptune. What is your natal/progressed Mars doing? Where is Uranus in your chart? We can definitely say in July when the Pluto/Neptune sextile and Saturn's station - there will be some kind of massive, forced PAUSE. Maybe so any un-reality can be dealt with. Keep this in mind, too. We will talk about July at some point ...
