I am on a roll today and it is too cold to go outside, so thought I would pop up the Full Moon for NEXT Sunday.
On Sunday, February 1st, the Leo Moon (at 13 degrees) opposes the Aquarius Sun giving us this month's FULL MOON - our annual Full Moon in fiery Leo.
We come to this part of winter (in the northern hemisphere), and keep in mind, our Sun, the ruler of Leo, is in his detriment in Aquarius and he is just a smidge over half-way through his days here and he (as us) is just really needing this Leo Full Moon to recharge his (our) batteries, because he gets back to himself through rulership - the Sun rules the Moon in Leo. The Moon, because this is her event, is as uncomfortable in Leo as the Sun is in Aquarius. So, whatever is going on is a bit UNCOMFORTABLE. And for most of us probably COLD :)
Full Moons bring things to a culmination, a conclusion and into the light.
The Leo Moon is about heart, pride, leadership AND VISIBILITY. The Aquarius Sun is about systems, collectives, groups, tech, the future. It's a me vs we polarity. This opposition is almost always asking us to think about - where is your heart in all of this? This year with all the mega-Aquarius energy also something like - where is the "human-being" in all of this? And conversely - why does your ego/your king need all this opposition?
Let's dive right in and unpack the chart!
The Full Moon in Leo opposes the Sun in Aquarius at 13 degrees. There is a mega-stellium in Aquarius, so like our Cancer Full Moon last month, Luna is again outmanned and has her work cut out for her. Both Moon and Sun are at awkward angles to a retrograde Jupiter in Cancer - the aspect is applying (still to come). The asteroids are plentiful and really tell the story. The Moon is EXACTLY conjunct asteroids Apollo and Achys. The Sun is exactly conjunct asteroid Atlantis. The ruler of this New Moon is the ruler of Leo - the Sun, weak in his polarity sign of Aquarius. Mars, also in Aquarius and opposing the Full Moon, more widely, is EXACTLY conjunct asteroids Hybris, Icarus and Amycus. Venus and Mercury are conjunct and widely oppose the Full Moon, too.
Some of this we have talked about in the weekly, so I am going to skip right to the ASTEROIDS.
Asteroids are pieces of rock floating in space. Likely the remains of planets and planetary bodies - they are cosmic time capsules.
There are over a million catalogued asteroids with over ten thousand named. Most are in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The empty space in every astrology chart you have ever seen, including your own is FILLED WITH THEM.
This is probably why I connect them with the so-called 'junk DNA' scientists are waking up to the importance of (along with dark matter). The myths we use in astrology are the ancient language of archetypes. They are the stories that connect all of us by re-tracing the shared pathways of our collective unconscious. There are parts of us/our DNA that remembers, and so reacts, to these stories.
It is stunning at times how accurate the asteroids, (synchronistically named with the archetypal myths), can be, but we have to be careful we aren't cherry-picking them to tell the story we want to tell - which is why I only use them in exact conjunctions. I only seek them out in rare situations. Here for example, I went looking for Icarus's father Daedalus because Icarus is so prominent.
Again, we can see the Full Moon - the main player here - is totally outgunned. THE SAME AS LAST MONTH'S FULL MOON IN CANCER.
Just look at the chart and that line-up directly across the sky from the Moon.
Leo, the Sun's sign, is also not her favorite place to be.
Still, she is not totally alone here.
She sits with Apollo and Achys. Apollo, the Sun God brings more LIGHT to the Full Moon - whatever is happening is VISIBLE. Maybe this is something that can no longer be stylized or managed. It's SEEN bare naked. Achys, I haven't seen before, but she connects to the mists of death, grief and despair. So maybe she speaks of (with Apollo and the Full Moon) the realization of what's been lost. The Full Moon in prideful/fiery Leo is showing us/making visible - GRIEF OVER WHAT'S BEEN LOST.
The Sun sits right across the sky and EXACTLY conjunct asteroid Atlantis. Atlantis is the myth of advanced civilizations destroyed by hubris. OVER-REACH. Maybe the collapse of something thought invincible. Maybe something about the price of technological or ideological ARROGANCE.
Mars, and keep in mind both Neptune and Chiron and Eris are answering to Mars, is EXACTLY conjunct asteroids Hybris, Icarus and Amycus. I mean I can't make this stuff up! What a flipping line-up for our last lunation before Eclipse season!
This energy is separating, so whatever has happened here is ALREADY HAPPENED at the time of Sunday's Full Moon. Or, because everything is yes, literal, but also figurative, represents what comes before.
Look at these guys! These guys name the sin, the method and the consequence.
Amycus was a boxer king who demanded strangers FIGHT HIM TO THE DEATH. He also represents being dragged into danger/death. BRUTALITY. He is violence that is framed as "the rules" and power that proves itself through domination. In Aquarius this can be speaking of something like 'systemized brutality' because, well "that's how it works" or "this what we have to do". "We can do this and so we will" (and yes, I am picturing the Minnesota nurse being dragged, pummeled and shot to death in the street).
Icarus was the unprepared Son who flew too close to the actual Sun. He gets a bit of a bad rap because he isn't just about arrogance (although he can be) so much as youthful ignorance/legacy/inheritance that was never tested/taught and proves to be too much. Icarus is a speeding car without consequence awareness. He shows up for me as something like - a future-generation gamble made by the people who won't pay the price. This is the confidence phase right before the collapse. The father who ill-prepared him, symbolized by asteroid Daedalus, sits EXACTLY conjunct Algol (losing our head) at this Full Moon and tightly conjunct Uranus. Oh my.
Hybris is hubris. Again, a refusal to acknowledge human limits/Gods/natural law - moral boundaries. Warnings are dismissed and ethical concerns are framed as weakness.
EVERYTHING IS REPEATING AT THIS FULL MOON AND SAYING THE SAME THING.
Conjunct Mars we can see that Icarus (the ill-prepared son who flies too close to the Sun and falls to his death), Hybris (hubris) and Amycus (brutality) are ACTED OUT and not just thought about. Their opposition to the Moon and conjunction to the Sun is unwinding/separating - whatever this is it has ALREADY HAPPENED.
These guys think they are beyond the consequences/above the law (and what does this sound like) and then we have Atlantis - the Sun's conjunction to Atlantis is applying/COMING - is sitting here with the Sun and saying, "NO ONE IS."
Cue that music when something is about to FALL TO EARTH. Sink into the sea. SPLAT.
and note I say "these guys", but could we be "these guys"? well ... yes :)
This isn't a playful Leo Full Moon. This is about the cost of EGO that has run amok. This isn't a warning shot. This is a receipt coming due. WHERE HAVE WE BEEN IGNORING A LIMIT?
In previous lunations I have noticed a tendency for Nessus aspects to follow or align with Hybris aspects - Nessus is, among other things, a kind of "ends justifies the means" thing when someone knows they are crossing a line, but they cross it anyway (Nessus can operate for a long time in charts and families and systems before getting 'caught'). Nessus is also about trusting really important things to really untrustworthy people. Nessus in Pisces is exactly inconjunct Venus at this lunation and speaks of the cruelty hidden inside the policy because Venus in Aquarius, keep in mind, is more about ideas than she is about people. We will all be better off when she gets into Pisces.
Our Leo Full Moon, sitting with Apollo and Achys is saying to that future-focused Aquarius stellium - "even if you get to build the future the way you want, you will not get to pretend the heart wasn't broken in the process".
