On July 24th, 2025 at 7:13AM EDT the Leo Moon caught up with the Leo Sun at 2 degrees giving us this month's New Moon - our annual New Moon in fiery big-hearted, courageous LEO!
Our natal Leo house is where we are meant to "shine" - this is where we create, take risks and are "recognized". This "recognition" doesn't mean everyone is going to love what we are doing (although they might). But it does mean the stuff we are doing will be noticed.
New Moons in Leo - the Sun's natural home - encourage us via events and INVITATIONS to take back control of our destiny. To chart our own course. To be BRAVE. As the Moon waxes/grows over the next two weeks, month and six months (through the Leo Full Moon) situations will transpire to help us do just that.
Let's dive right in and unpack the chart!
The Moon meets the Sun in Leo - think FIERY FRESH START. The New Moon/Sun trine Saturn and Neptune in Aries. The New Moon/Sun sextiles Uranus in Gemini. The New Moon/Sun opposes Pluto EXACT.
The New Moon opposes Pluto EXACT. Pluto oppositions often show us what we’re projecting/HIDING. What is playing out "out there" that’s really a reflection of what's unresolved "in here". If we're blaming, shaming, obsessing, or even idealizing someone it is time to ZOOM OUT. There's likely a part of our own psyche in need of attention. The Leo/Aquarius polarity pits personal authority/our royalty (Leo) against collective power and systems (Aquarius).
This can feel like an identity crisis. Who am I when I’m not in control? How do I lead when no one’s following the rules anymore?
Power struggles are likely. The Sun in Leo is the leader and with Pluto in Aquarius - the power is with the people/the tech/groups now - especially what groups are THINKING and doing with tech as Aqua ruler Uranus is in Gemini. Think about Trump and the Epstein secrets that just won't go away. Clinton and Obama's, secrets, too. Also, the way both parties in the United States are always accusing the other of what they are doing. Pluto in Aquarius is chipping away at corrupted power structures and COLLECTIVE DENIAL.
The Coldplay Kiss Cam Moment (Leo rules romance) sent the internet into a tailspin. Mars on the South Node is fated action tied to past karma. Venus squaring Mars is relationship tension flaring. The New Moon opposing Pluto is secrets revealed in real time and DRAMATIC ENDINGS. A romantic entanglement becomes a public spectacle. A private moment goes viral, collapsing boundaries between personal life and mass entertainment. Uranus in Gemini!
What happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas anymore, although yes, this is Boston :)
With Uranus in Gemini shocking disruptions through tech and communication are always possible, so from here on out the chance of losing both your career and marriage at a Coldplay concert will be low, but never zero .... keep this in mind.
(the Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is "a middle-aged woman, her long hair flowing over her shoulder is wearing a youthful garment" is crazy appropriate for the 'kiss-cam moment', too, and speaks of identity, age, re-invention (Mercury retrograde in Leo!) and how we are seen vs how we see ourselves. What happens when you let your hair down? Is she empowered? Trying too hard? Brave? Cringey? This is all classic South Node in Virgo stuff. Hypercritical and obsessed with what is and isn't "right")
Mercury is retrograde in Leo and rules the South Node in Virgo, so, let's notice what we rush to judge/label/FIX. Who gets to decide what is too much and what is appropriate?
Profound shifts in the concept of leadership and power are coming through the grassroot level of society. Personal experiences instantly become collective experiences. Secrets are revealed and instead of fighting over our differences they can bring diverse people and groups and situations TOGETHER.
This is kind of one of the points of the South Node in Virgo at this time. One of the lower-level ways it is helping us through these challenging/shifting times AND we can use this in higher/bigger ways, too, by turning the mirror around to ourselves.
The New Moon trines both Saturn and Neptune retrograde. There are many ways this can be playing out for us. Trines remove obstacles - things happen faster/smoother. As we "do our Sun" and face the music/mirror/ending with that Pluto opposition - the dissolving reality/cementing of unreality is falling into place.
Real-world situations can fade away. Dreams can become real. Both Saturn and Neptune are retrograde, so this will have its 'feet in the past' in some way.
The New Moon is sextile Uranus. Unlike trines, sextiles require some efforting. It asks for our participation. To wring the best from Leo energies - WE HAVE TO SHOW UP.
Uranus in Gemini is about new thinking, new words, new conversations, new local experiences, new education, changes with your natal Gemini house theme - what actions do you need to take? What needs to CHANGE? This separating aspect (already happened) suggests a recent breakthrough, break-up, breakdown, new idea/conversation (that likely won't be totally new with Mercury retrograde) or DISRUPTION is nudging us in a new direction, maybe in the days leading up to this New Moon. Then the New Moon GROUNDS THE ENERGY/THE MOMENT and pulls in the creative spark to sustain it.
The trines give us the green light - this is our Leo and Aries houses - and then the sextile is where we press the gas pedal - this is our Leo and Aquarius houses. At its heart - which Leo rules! - this Moon is all about each of us. It is a call to OWN OUR STORY. Not the pretty/curated version we show the world, but the raw, real one. With the New Moon's (out-of-sign) square to Chiron there can be an invitation to lead from our scars/not our status.
With Pluto in Aquarius and an EXACT OPPOSITION to whatever is starting - know that real power/empowerment will not come through the spotlight we step into or toss on ourselves, but through what the people watching/re-acting/re-imagining do/say/think about what they see. More "some things are out of our hands n 2025" echoes of the North Node in Pisces.
And, of course, with these aspects and all the retrograde energies - THE DEAD WILL NOT STAY BURIED. The past is alive and well and burrowing into our brains right now, so we can JUDGE IT or use it for a higher purpose/to do our Sun, that's up to us.
These early degree planets are all over the natal charts of the 'news-makers' and power players. They are interacting with this New Moon energy from different signs: Obama's Moon, Melania's Mars, the United States Venus and Jupiter and when Venus catches up with Jupiter in August it will be on the U.S. Sun, midpoint of King Charles North Node and Prince William's Moon, China's Moon and Uranus, Russia's North Node, Trump's Neptune in Libra (his inability to see the reality of partnerships), Epstein's Sun, Putin's Moon, Iran's Jupiter and IC, the United States IC, Zuckerberg's MC and Chiron midpoint, Vance's North Node and Jupiter, Netanyahu's Uranus, they are all over the techie charts that I won't get into, etc, etc.
The New Moon is tightly conjunct Israel's 4-degree Leo natal Moon. Their shadow is clearly visible to everyone right now. They need new conversations and new ideas and new actions. They have a Sun/Algol (Medusa's third eye, most malevolent star in the galaxy) opposing their wounded Chiron in Scorpio (themes of power, control, intimacy, life and death) - the ultimate 'hurt people hurting people' placement. The New Moon is forming a Grand Fire Trine with Palestine's Mars and Saturn and a sextile with their Jupiter and inconjunct with their wounded Chiron in Cancer (themes of emotional security, abandonment, broken roots). Palestine needs nourishment and a home with an emphasis on FOOD. Israel's exalted Venus and Netanyahu's chaotic Uranus is conjunct Palestine's wounded Chiron. With Venus's natural orbit making a six-pointed star and exalted and ruling Israel's chart and Israel's Moon (the people) in royal Leo and both exactly inconjunct each other maybe the people of Israel are a 'chosen' people with some kind of special purpose. I would think it would be overcoming this "hurt people hurting people" trauma wound instead of just passing it on ....
Next summer when Pluto reaches 4 degrees Aquarius and opposes Israel's Moon we are going to have Neptune at 4 degrees Aries, Uranus at 4 degrees Gemini and Jupiter at 4 degrees Leo (Israel's Moon/the people) with Chiron at 0 Taurus, the Sun at 0 Leo and the North Node at 0 Pisces. Venus will be at 14 Virgo, Saturn 14 Aries, Mercury retrograde at 16 Cancer with Mars at 16 Gemini. WTH!
Today's chart is setting up that one. Be thoughtful with your decisions and actions now.
Let's take advantage of this New Moon's opportunity to hold our shape with what we want to BE, change what needs to change, re-look/re-learn/re-think our hearts (Mercury retrograde in Leo reminding us of what we once loved and asking us if we still do, reminding us of a need to feel something, to love something). The Moon's smooth flow with Uranus, Neptune and Saturn are gifts to us or can be slippery slopes if we are unconscious with this.
How to start? Start by setting your New Moon intentions.
Saturn sits with Neptune and the Moon is in an uninterrupted flow with both of them. Limits are optional. Be patient - there is a lot of retrograde energy, and you are actually as old as dirt. Focus as much on feeling as action, but don't sit idle. This is a fire New Moon and they are rare opportunities for fresh starts. Let's strive for a natural responsiveness that is based on our inner strength rather than outer show.
(think about the Kiss Cam couple - they would never have gone viral if 1. they had owned the moment/not tried to hide or 2. not behaved that way in the first place. This is a learning moment for all of us about authenticity, so what are you learning? What do you see?)
What are your skills? Where is your lion/where are you intended to ROAR? Leo rules what we give birth to - our children, our creative projects. How are we managing these things? Leo rules your heart - is it open and BEATING? Sit in the Sun. Feel it. Remember how it felt when you were a small child because she/he is still within you needing that sun/fun. The Moon's final aspect is a sextile to Venus - what do you want?
Set your intentions on the night of the 25th or very early on the 26th - before 7:00AM EST.
Clear a space. Wash your hands. Speak intentionally (and less) in the time leading up to and following this ritual to give your thoughts/words more juice. Don't share them. This is all about you. Let your heart guide you. Write your intentions down by hand in script on a blank piece of paper, speak the words out loud. Sit with this as long as it feels appropriate, then burn the paper - release your attention from these things knowing your intention is known.
