the astrology of the New Moon in gemini | new information, ideas and choices that shift and change and sometimes just dissolve into thin air, new relationship agreements, stay humble, stay flexible, appreciate what you already have

On Sunday, June, 18th, 2023 at 12:38AM EDT, the Gemini Moon meets the Gemini Sun at 26 degrees giving us this month's New Moon - our annual New Moon in Gemini.

Let's dive right in and unpack the chart.

The Moon meets the Sun at 26 degrees Gemini. They are tightly conjunct Juno and asteroid Atlantis. The New Moon squares Neptune and Ceres. The New Moon sextiles Eris. Mercury, ruler of Gemini, rules this lunation from 11 degrees Gemini, exactly conjunct asteroid Phaethon. Mercury is sextiling Venus, exact.

The Moon and Sun meet near the end of Gemini, so as Gemini season is just about to wrap up, here is NEW INFORMATION. NEW IDEAS. NEW COMMUNICATIONS. NEW CHOICES. NEW WAYS OF THINKING. Gemini is about duality. There can be multiple ways forward.

The fly in the ointment is the New Moon's square to imaginative and illusive Neptune in his home sign of Pisces - so we have to double check this information/think carefully about these ideas. Check out what people are telling us. Situations could be foggy and choices prone to disappearing

Squares to Neptune can be exhausting. Confusing. Wet. We get tired. We get sick. We need a rest/a break. We might face a disappointment. We martyr. We self-sabotage. We get nostalgic and dream/regret the days away.

The plus side to this Neptune square is the access it gives us to our imagination.

To compassion. To healing energy. To spirit. To our ancestors - whose trauma we are dealing with/healing and gifts we are enjoying. Yes, this comes through a square, so brings tension/frustration, but sometimes it takes what it takes to get things moving.

The Neptune square also allows us to release/dissolve, the Gemini excess when it is just too much go-go-go, too much over-thinking and anxiety. We want to be prioritizing our mental health now.

Neptune's stabilizing sextile to Vesta in Taurus will help.

Vesta in Taurus says let's focus on what we truly value/on ways to enrich what we already have. Let what keeps you up at night be something worth losing sleep over. The Moon's square to Ceres in Virgo is kind of echoing this. Ceres is connected to mothering, food, things outside our control, season of life situations/fear of loss. She connects strongly to Virgo (the sign of the end of summer harvest). Virgo is about what does and does not 'make the cut'. With Ceres in Virgo's square to the Moon we can become aware of life's 'selection' process'. We can't nurture/devote time and attention to EVERYTHING. With Ceres finishing up in Virgo - and this could feel very much like time is running out with something - we separate the wheat from the chaff (or this is done for us), so that our attention can turn to what really matters (Vesta in Taurus).

The New Moon is tightly conjunct asteroids Juno and Atlantis. The conjunction with Juno pulls in relationships/contracts. Tells us it is time to step into creative flow within relationships. Not give ourselves up or make ourselves second - remember Juno's archetype includes the things we do to maintain access to someone else's power. This isn't always pretty. We can expect this lunar cycle - the next month, and especially the next two weeks - to be about NEW RELATIONSHIP AGREEMENTS.

(and with Venus about to go retrograde and the South Node moving into Venus ruled Libra, the already tricky state of most relationships is about to get even trickier)

With Juno square to Neptune there could be some relationship tension/problems with contracts that are maybe too loosey-goosey/lacking boundaries. Or maybe we have 'idealized' the partner/relationship/contract and now here are some facts/information/conversations at odds with our rose-colored glasses.

Whatever this is, pay attention to the 'terms of the agreement' now.

With Mercury squaring Neptune next week this fogginess with communication will continue. Read the fine print. Call in an expert. If you need to make an important decision, know you don't have all the facts and will need to make adjustments as you go.

There can be misunderstandings, out-and-out lies and missing information.

The New Moon is making an opportunistic sextile to Eris. One of the things I associate Eris with is the 'whistleblower' archetype. If there is a collective whistleblowing energy now - and there are a couple situations I can think of off the top of my head including aliens and lab-leak - it will still be hard to know what is true. Even if it is. Identity chaos is also an Eris in Aries energy and the sextile to dualistic Gemini amplifies this. Some people, greater numbers of people than ever before, have no idea what to do or what to be. Some of this is surely the result of having too many options, or thinking we do, and not being dictated to/contained the way we once were. Being online instead of in-our-bodies, so maybe our bodies start to feel alien to us (Uranus in Taurus). Plus, the old forms not being able to hold the more complex sense of self people possess now. And some Neptune in Pisces unreality tossed into the mix. These are complicated issues that won't be made less complicated now.

The ruler of the New Moon is Mercury. Mercury is strong in his/her home sign and sextiling Venus just before she starts walking the shadow degrees of her upcoming retrograde. This is good news. Speaks of opportunities with love and money.

The cautions with this chart, besides that square to Neptune (the biggest caution) are the New Moon's conjunction to asteroid Atlantis and Mercury's conjunction to asteroid Phaethon.

Phaeton's mythology story goes something like this - born of the sea-nymph Clymene and the son God Apollo (Phoebus), Phaeton grew up never knowing his father, being teased by peers regarding his father-less upbringing, but with his mother telling him of his famous paternity. Phaeton finally tracks down Apollo to confirm his heritage and Apollo says, something, like, "yes, Luke, I am your father" without the "Luke" part (and no dramatic Star Wars music). Phaeton asks Apollo for some kind of proof to bring back to his local frenemies - he couldn't just snap a quick pic for Facebook in those days. Apollo promises to give him whatever he wants, and Phaeton wants to drive Apollo's chariot for the day - I guess cruise across the sky for all his buds to see. Apollo sensing big trouble ahead begs him to reconsider. Phaeton refuses, and, the promise being unbreakable, Apollo turns over the reins to his inexperienced son.

Things go OK for a New York minute and then, the fiery steeds, sensing no God at the helm, crash across the sky, flying dangerously close to the Earth (scorching the land and creating the Sahara desert) until Jupiter (Zeus) begged by Gaia (Earth) to intervene, tosses a thunderbolt, and Phaeton crashes from the sky to his death.

So, what can we make of this - absent father making promises he shouldn't be making, impulsive son assuming responsibilities he isn't ready to handle. This story always makes me think of the high school kid with the powerful/workaholic dad driving that fast sports car and crashing on prom night (and Phaeton in charts has been known to speak of racing cars/racing out of control).

And Atlantis is almost certainly something about ambition and hubris and the extremes of technology plus maybe something like CALAMITY - yes, I'll say it CALAMITY.

This isn't so much a time of looking before we leap as much as it is a time of not leaping.

To BOTTOM LINE THIS ONE - we have new ideas, information, conversations that will move us forward over the next month. We can expect changes within our relationships and contracts. We will have to work with our energy levels and take breaks and get enough rest/sleep. We will want to prioritize our mental health and watch for self-sabotaging behaviors. We will want to double check information, ask questions and know everything isn't exactly the way it appears. Don't expect things started now to proceed in a straight line. Don't expect one thing to be just one thing. We want to stay humble. Keep our feet on the ground. Drive safely. We succeed during this cycle by staying flexible and NOT pushing things to extremes. Gemini always offers choices. It will be up to us to figure out what is REAL, what is best for us/most valuable and stay flexible as we navigate this cycle.

Keep in mind the Moon's final aspect in Gemini - which shows us where this whole thing lands - will be that square to dissolving/drifting Neptune .... so, disappointment with what is started now is possible. This doesn't mean to do nothing - make small, fresh moves, have new/light conversations and stay flexible.

We are in this 'in-between time' now that Pluto is back in Capricorn, and it can be tempting to rush back to something from the past. This is appropriate in some ways, but, just keep in mind Pluto in Cappy is a 'finishing up' period before he returns to Aquarius. What is coming with you from the past is probably already with you. The rest of the year may be more about what we are finishing and how we move forward with what we already have/have already started than it is about brand new things ....

GEMINI NEW MOON AFFIRMATIONS

This is a great time for affirmations for Gemini themes - movement, flexibility, wit, communication, logic, social graces and ease, siblings, local issues, teaching/learning, mental anxiety, areas of life where you are seeing double or doing two things at once, our nervous system, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders and our lungs.

AFFIRMATION TIPS: get into a good frame of mind - always make affirmations from a  positive place (meaning both happy and certain) - write your affirmations down by hand in script, speak them out loud - then release your attention from them knowing that your intention is known.

Know what you seek is seeking you (Rumi).

Know these things are already yours.
