the astrology of the Full Moon in Aquarius | August 1, 2023 - exaggeration, over-doing, finding our courage and taking action, a need to stop looking at the past or the things we don't have or can't do and being pissed off about it

On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 2:31PM EDT, the Aquarius Moon opposes the Leo Sun, giving us this month's Full Moon - our annual Full Moon in Aquarius.

Full Moons brings things to light, to a conclusion or to a peak point of fullness.

Let's dive right in and unpack the chart!

The Moon, at 9 degrees Aquarius, opposes the Sun, strong in his home sign, at 9 degrees Leo. The Moon and the Sun are both squaring Jupiter in Taurus (applying). The Full Moon is inconjunct Pallas in Virgo and trines Ceres in Libra. The ancient ruler of Aquarius, Saturn, is exactly opposing Mercury. The modern ruler of Aquarius, Uranus, is conjunct Chariklo, sextiling Neptune and trining Pluto and is exactly squaring Black Moon Lilith. Mars trines Jupiter EXACT almost to the second.

For starters here and like every Aquarius Full Moon, our sentimental and emotional Moon isn't uber comfortable in detached and intellectual Aquarius and certainly at a disadvantage opposing a strong Leo Sun (Sun's home sign). The kings/queens, yes, even the mad ones, have somehow had their way/say. The Leo Sun showing us, likely through an illumination or conclusion, our pride/skills/what does and doesn't make us shiny/allow us to shine.

Mercury in Virgo for the long haul is covering degrees he/she will walk two more times, so information/conversations will NOT BE SETTLED. Mercury is opposing Saturn, Aquarius's ancient ruler. The buck stops here. There is a "no", limit, stop, reality check. Conversations/what we see/learn brings us face to face with THE TRUTH. Full Moon events may not be what we want to see/hear. BUT Mercury rules Virgo/is strong and Saturn is retrograde and weak in Pisces. Let's not regret the stuff we didn't do or the things that didn't work out. Let's not overcomplicate things in our head or look too far ahead either.

The good news here really is that a situation where we do not/have not had control/agency is PEAKING, ending

The Full Moon's inconjunct with Pallas, sandwiched between Mercury and Mars, speaks of the need to make ADJUSTMENTS as whatever is coming to a head comes to a head.

The Moon's trine to Ceres in Libra pulls in our closest relationships. Something here is GROWING/smoothly falling into place as we embrace the Aqua Moon's vibe of freedom/individuality. This is the fruitful future that falls naturally into place as a result of WHAT IS ALREADY HAPPENING/GROWING/IN PLAY.

A week from now, the same Moon that opposes the Sun today will be in Taurus, sitting with Uranus and squaring the Sun. That will be 15 degrees Taurus, tightly conjunct where we had that Scorpio Eclipse back in the beginning of May that we talked about HERE. The Third Quarter Square next week will question the drama/stuff we have created or whatever it is that is looking or has looked so shiny. That Moon will be asking us- is there something real here or has it been all for show?

But before we get there, we have to be here

And, here, now, the Sun and Moon square Jupiter. The Moon's exact square coming tonight. The Sun gets there on Sunday (the only planetary aspect this week that isn't happening today and why I didn't write a weekly!). This is BIG, showy - maybe part of the reason the third quarter square next week is charged with bringing us back to Earth a little or alot - it's ENCOURAGING. Probably overblown. Some may go too far/over-extend/over-spend. But it's also expansive. Lucky. Tells us there is MORE out there somewhere. Squares to Jupiter bring tension/frustration, but they also bring potential and optimism. Use this well.

Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius and ruler of this lunation is exactly squaring Black Moon Lilith. The anti-Moon making herself known at the Aqua Full Moon - an anti-Full Moon itself in a way. Self-acceptance is always the key to healing/working with Black Moon Lilith - the shame around wanting something we were entirely entitled to be wanting. There is a CLARITY and healing that comes when our Black Moon Lilith shame is confronted and allowed to be accepted/seen for what it is. Once we understand the shame as the seed of the wound/the anger, maybe we can begin to clear lifetimes of residual debris from our soul's path. In Leo, the wound is about being shamed for wanting attention/for wanting to feel special. For wanting to be loved. With this wound activated, when we step out/up/into the spotlight things may not go as we are expecting/wanting. The attention/appreciation may not be there in ways we are hoping for. The square to Uranus creates tension/frustration, but also provides an opportunity for healing and liberation through Full Moon events.

The best news about this Full Moon is probably Mars (ruler of the North Node now) making that exact WITHIN SECONDS, NOT MINUTES - trine (brakes off) to that same expansive/lucky Jupiter the Moon and Sun are squaring. Here is our way through the square and there is something EASY ABOUT THIS. This tells us it is a TIME FOR ACTION (for some a time for passion/anger). This won't be about us beating our head against the wall or closed fists against a locked door.

It seems ridiculous to say we aren't going to get anywhere if we don't go anywhere/if we don't move, but, yes, that's about it. Movement is good. Just keep in mind Mars is in practical 'put one foot in front of the other Virgo'. This isn't about leaping and the net will appear. We are building the net.

Once again our Aqua Full Moon is conjunct asteroid Chariklo.

In myth, Chariklo was the wife (some myths speak of her as the daughter) of the centaur Chiron. She is a wise nymph and mentor, supporting/nursing Chiron during his wounding and throughout the many years of his suffering. For this reason, she is thought to have a shaman-like healing nature and is activated in our charts during times of illness/injury. Located between Saturn and Uranus (the co-rulers of Aquarius giving her a decidedly Aquarius vibe) but closer to Uranus, so more Promethean-style 'great awakening' energy, Chariklo was discovered in mid-February 1997 (Sun in Aquarius) just as the Hubble Telescope was originally launched. So Chariklo brings the gift of seeing beyond the horizon. She represents, via the energy of her discovery chart, the future crashing into our current reality, likely via science or technology. Fitting for an Aquarius Full Moon.

At the time of her discovery, Chariklo formed a perfect six pointed star/hexagram in the heavens along with the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto (all at 5 degrees - what magic was February 15, 1997!).

She was conjunct Saturn and Pluto (when time ran out) back in January 2020 and she was conjunct Jupiter and Saturn when they met on the Winter Solstice at the end of that same year and time started back up again. We will have to see, over time, what kind of doorways she is opening for us.

There are many inconjuncts and semi-squares in the chart and with the South Node in Libra we could feel very uncertain and indecisive. When in doubt now, because the North Node is in Aries - we will wan to take some kind of action. Fix something that is broken. Clean your car. Exercise until you sweat. Start something without an agenda about how you want/need it to go. When given an opportunity to be brave - take it.

Keep in mind the retrogrades this summer are just getting started. We are not even close to understanding where all of this is going. There is almost certainly some confusion about how we are 'framing' things now. Quick fixes are unlikely to prove sticky. By mid-September, things will look and feel very different and we'll have more certainty (and steady forward movement) with things.
