the astrology of the amazing jupiter and saturn trines of 2026 and 2027 | first pass is august 31st, 2026 - what are we building from the wreckage/liberation of 2020

Jupiter and Saturn met at 0-degrees Aquarius on the Winter Solstice at the end of 2020, beginning a new 20-year Jupiter/Saturn cycle (also a 200 year masculine energy air/fire cycle) and, symbolically, inaugurating an era in which Aquarius themes became increasingly unavoidable - technology, networks, collective systems, groups, social organization, information and the question of how we, as human beings, organize ourselves in a radically changing world.

As always with Saturn it couldn't have been more literal/more real.

The old world had effectively stopped/time had run out with the meeting of Saturn/Pluto/Ceres/Mercury and the Sun at the beginning of 2020. We have talked about this many times. The structures we had taken for granted - work, school, travel, commerce, our social interactions - were totally disrupted, and technology had suddenly become the mechanism through which much of life continued.

At that Solstice back in 2020 (the time of the first MRNA vaccines) - a world that had ended began to reform itself.

So, now we look at where the planets are for the Waxing Trine that comes from that conjunction. Jupiter is in Leo. Saturn is in Aries. Our two most PERSONAL signs. We have moved from the Aquarian question of the collective future into a much more personal question - What do I do with the future we created? This is tricky stuff. But we wouldn't be alive right now on planet Earth if we weren't wanting to figure this out folks/to be part of the tribe that does.

So, the three Jupiter/Saturn trines of 2026-2027 are really the testing and building phase of the Aquarian future that began in 2020.

The trine this week happens with Saturn retrograde in AriesSince the opening conjunction in December 2020 - what did we commit ourselves to? What did we build because circumstances demanded it? Which structures actually work? Which ones were emergency structures that were never meant to become permanent? Where have we confused responsibility with obligation?

And maybe most importantly - what are we willing to take responsibility for now that we didn't have the freedom to choose in 2020? What did we do then, because circumstances demanded it, that deserves to survive?

Saturn in Aries has to learn how to build around the self without imprisoning the self and Saturn in Aries periods (through April 2028) are often times when things come up quickly and we have to respond/start before we are ready. Our ducks aren't in a row. They are not even in the same city.

And Jupiter in Leo wants to enlarge exactly that self - creativity, individuality, confidence, visibility, joy, leadership. So, the trine can be incredibly productive and keep in mind something is designed to GROW now. Whether we do this consciously or unconsciously is up to us (until it isn't).

Jupiter says, “This could become something!”
Saturn says, “Then let's give it a structure.”

These are our two middle planets - the ones that connect the outer planets with the inner planets. Having them in a cooperative position is incredibly helpful for CREATION. This will be off and on until next summer, but the energy will always be operating a bit in the background because neither planet will change signs during this BRAKES OFF period.

Jupiter expands. Saturn contains. Jupiter takes risks. Saturn calculates consequences. Jupiter says yes. Saturn asks whether we can sustain the yes/sometimes says no. But, in a trine, they aren't fighting each other

There is momentum without recklessness. And this is happening immediately after the 'basket' formation we had last summer that allowed something to line up (even if we can't quite get a handle on it yet) and during the cycle of our final Lunar Eclipse in Pisces which is acting as a kind of deep-cleaning mechanism that probably allows the trine to work.

And then Saturn retrograde for this first pass - is asking us to look backward one more time before moving forward. We are not returning to the past - I think if we could really see the dead grass behind us, it would scare the hell out of us, and we would be too scared to take the very steps that will get us to the greener fields. This is about retrieving wisdom. What breakthroughs have we had recently?

AUGUST 31st, 2026 - the structure looks backward (Saturn) and the vision looks forward (Jupiter).

This is happening at 13 degrees - a late cardinal-adjacent decan, a "getting real" degree in most degree symbolism traditions and Jupiter in Leo is already moving toward expansion - what do I want to create? What wants to grow? What wants to have a life?

"I can see where I'm going, but I need to reconsider what I'm carrying with me." And I know we might not really know where we are going. I don't. Trust there is a good reason for this. Things are coming apart so other things can come together. It's a very good time to recognize that not every old responsibility/commitment deserves to become part of our new future. To recognize that the system that holds the lifestyle we want/wanted might be falling down.

Saturn is Kronos. Jupiter is Zeus. Kronos didn't just discipline his children - he ate them (!) out of fear that one would depose him. Zeus was the one hidden away and raised in secret (just like AI now), who grew up and did depose him.

Jupiter/Saturn is a succession myth. A trine between them isn't peace between equals - it's the son and the God he overthrew finding a working truce (this is where the AI stuff is also coming into this with AI being the son in our Age of Aquarius - we'll get to this in a post when I can find a more heartfelt and optimistic way into it all than I am feeling now).

What did our fear-of-being-devoured make us build, and are we still that afraid? Aries makes this quite literal too. Aries is the newborn, undisciplined self and Saturn sitting there retrograde is the old king going back through his own myth before the next generation gets loose!

Saturn retrograde in Aries says - before we build it, let's reconsider the rules we're building under. This is particularly appropriate coming through the Pisces eclipse cycle. Something is dissolving or completing WE ARE MOVING OUT OF OLD DESTINY PATTERNS, so Saturn asks us to examine the responsibilities, fears, commitments and structures we've accumulated. And then Zeus (Jupiter) is expanding something - he doesn't ask Kronos's (Saturn's) permission. He knows his destiny. He just shows up with lightning. Leo energy. Expect/welcome a creative spark when it shows up. Make room for it.

APRIL 3rd, 2027 - this time Jupiter is retrograde and Saturn is direct. The emphasis flips!

By now the structure has been reviewed. We have made some decisions about what needs to change. Saturn can now begin building the new framework.

But Jupiter retrograde asks us to reconsider the visionDo I still want what I thought I wanted?

That's a really important Jupiter-retrograde question that won't be skipped if we don't want to get something and then figure out it is the wrong 'something'.

Leo makes this particularly personal. We may discover that some ambition, recognition, creative project, leadership role or definition of success that looked exciting from the outside doesn't actually feel like the thing our heart wants anymore.

So the second trine could be -“Now that the structure is changing, is the dream still the right dream?” o“The future is being built, but I am revising what I want that future to contain.”

JULY 11th, 2027 is THE PAYOFF

Both planets are moving forward. Saturn has reviewed the structure. Jupiter has reviewed the vision. Now they're cooperating without either one looking backward. Happening at 27-degrees Leo, Jupiter is deep into the sign, nearly out the door into Virgo, so the third trine happens almost at the exit - Jupiter's about to leave the building!

The first trine - review the structure.
The second - review the vision.
The third - move your ass.

And life is magical folks. Life will conspire for all these things to happen. Trines are smooth flow- we won't have to beat our head against the table or our fists against the door. And because Jupiter is in Leo and Saturn is in Aries, the movement is toward creation, agency, leadership, courage and self-definition. It's not simply expansion. It's structured expansion. It's the real deal.

So, there is movement from:

THE FUTURE WE ENTERED
- THE STRUCTURES WE INHERITED
- THE FUTURE WE CHOOSE
THE LIFE WE CREATE.

The end of 2020 asked, “What kind of world are we entering?” and 2026–27 asks, “What are we going to make of it?”

Let's take a look by sign. Keep in mind ARIES IS THE COLLECTIVE STORY, so always read that one - we are looking at 13 degrees if you are using your rising sign house. Also check your Sun sign.

ARIES RISING - 1st/5th Houses
This trine connects your identity and self-direction with creativity, pleasure and self-expression. Saturn asks you to reconsider who you are becoming, while Jupiter opens the door to doing more of what makes you feel alive and a particularly good time to give structure to something you genuinely want to create.

TAURUS RISING - 12th/4th Houses
Something may be shifting beneath the surface around home, family, roots and your private emotional world. Saturn asks you to take responsibility for what needs healing or restructuring, while Jupiter helps you imagine a home and inner life that feel more expansive and authentically your own.

GEMINI RISING - 11th/3rd Houses
Your ideas, communication and immediate environment can begin connecting more productively with your friendships, networks and larger vision. An idea that has been circulating may find the right people or structure to help it grow, but Saturn asks you to be intentional about which conversations and communities deserve your energy.

CANCER RISING - 10th/2nd Houses
This is a supportive connection between career and resources, public identity and personal value. Jupiter can expand your sense of what you're capable of creating professionally, while Saturn asks you to build something sustainable rather than simply chase a bigger opportunity.

LEO RISING - 9th/1st Houses

This is a powerful trine for becoming more fully yourself by expanding your world. Education, travel, teaching, publishing or a new philosophy of life can reinforce a changing sense of identity and Saturn asks you to take yourself and your emerging direction seriously.

VIRGO RISING - 8th/12th Houses
The trine works through the deep, unseen territory of your chart - endings, psychological patterns, shared resources and what you carry unconsciously. Saturn helps you put boundaries and structure around what has been draining you, while Jupiter offers the possibility of greater freedom through release.

LIBRA RISING - 7th/1st Houses
Relationships and identity are working together rather than against each other. You may be redefining how you show up in partnership without giving away your individuality, with Saturn helping you establish healthier terms and Jupiter encouraging relationships that allow you to become more - not less - yourself.

SCORPIO RISING - 6th/12th Houses
This trine connects your daily life, work and routines with the deeper need for rest, retreat and release. Saturn asks you to create sustainable structures around your time and energy, while Jupiter reminds you that productivity isn't the only measure of a meaningful life.

SAGITTARIUS RISING - 5th/11th Houses
This may be one of the loveliest expressions of the trine - your creativity and individuality connecting with community and collective purpose. Something you create could find its people, while Saturn helps you turn a passion or inspiration into something with staying power.

CAPRICORN RISING - 4th/10th Houses
The trine links home and family with career and public life, making it possible to build a better relationship between the two. Saturn asks you to reconsider the foundations underneath your ambitions, while Jupiter can expand your professional visibility or sense of purpose.

AQUARIUS RISING - 3rd/9th Houses

Your mind, voice and immediate environment connect with the larger world of teaching, travel, publishing, philosophy and meaning. An idea can move from something you are thinking about into something you are actually sharing - with Saturn helping give your message authority and form.

PISCES RISING - 2nd/8th Houses
This trine brings attention to your own resources and values versus shared resources and entanglements. Jupiter can expand your sense of worth and possibility, while Saturn helps you establish clearer boundaries around what you give, receive, owe and are responsible for.

xo all - back with the weekly. I still have another post on the Pisces Eclipse (which is in play for about 6 months) to finish up this week, too!
