This is another BIG WEEK and home to our second, and final, summer Eclipse. Looking at the aspects and transits it looks like we move from old thinking/old stories to adjustment and disorientation to a confrontation with what is real to an Eclipse BIG REVEAL that focuses our action on what needs our care and protection.
Mercury is doing a lot of the work early in the week and then by Friday the Sun/Mercury and the Full Moon are ALL being hit by Uranus. So, maybe this is a week when something we have been thinking about, talking about or trying to understand suddenly CANNOT REMAIN THE SAME. It looks like Mercury walks the road first, so the Sun/Moon axis doesn't have to arrive cold.
OK, I need more coffee and a vacation which isn't going to happen so, but let's unpack another week here on planet Earth!
Next Monday - after this week's Eclipse - we have the first of three Jupiter/Saturn trines to introduce the month of September - a month when things finally start COMING TOGETHER. In the meantime, let's stay in the moment folks.
TUESDAY - Mercury conjuncts South Node/opposite North Node, Mercury enters Virgo, Mercury trines Chiron, Vesta stations retrograde (late Aries)
WEDNESDAY - Sun inconjuncts Pluto, Sun inconjuncts Neptune
THURSDAY- Mercury inconjuncts Pluto, Mercury inconjuncts Neptune, Sun conjuncts Mercury
FRIDAY - FULL MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE IN PISCES, Mercury squares Uranus, Sun squares Uranus
MONDAY - the Moon begins the week in Capricorn square Venus in Libra.
This is tension/frustration between what we need to do and what we want, between responsibility and relationship, practicality and harmony. It's not necessarily dramatic (it might be if hitting your chart), but it introduces the week's larger question -
What am I maintaining because it is expected, reasonable, or keeps things working and what do I actually want?
Then the Moon moves into Aquarius, and the emotional atmosphere SHIFTS.
TUESDAY - the old story gets RE-VISITED
Mercury on the South Node can bring back an old thought pattern, old conversation, old explanation, old piece of information, old decision or old way of making sense of something.
But because it is opposing the North Node, the point isn't necessarily to return to the old idea. It's almost something like - we are shown an old way of thinking so we can recognize where it no longer takes us.
And then Mercury comes home to Virgo. So, Mercury is moving from fixed fire Leo - the land of what I think, what I say, what I believe, what I want to express - into mutable earth Virgo - What actually works? What is useful? What needs correcting? What have I missed?
After a summer swimming back and forth in the emotional waters of Cancer and then getting burnt out fast in fiery Leo, Mercury finally comes home to Virgo! This is especially good news for Virgos and Geminis (Sun and Risings), but EVERYONE'S natal Virgo house will benefit. With Mercury in Virgo, our thinking, writing and communication will be more practical and commonsense. We will be all about the details. Nothing gets by Mercury in Virgo. But lots of things get dismissed. If it's not real/not factually stated/if it doesn't work - it's outta here.
So, Tuesday may feel like a shift from expressing ourselves to having some discernment about what we are/have been expressing :) Mercury will be in Virgo until September 10th.
Then Mercury trines Chiron. Something that has been difficult to articulate/even painful may finally become speakable. The wound/vulnerable can speak in plain language.
Notice Mercury has to get from Leo to Virgo to get the smooth trine. Our words/their words/the information is more practical now. Maybe this is about a Taurean matter - money, values, self-esteem, resources, our natal Taurus house theme. Or maybe here is where circumstances conspire for us to recognize that an old mental habit or old way of communicating is actually protecting a very old wound that now wants us to work with it.
This is also the day Vesta (the fire that we think we must keep burning/the thing that keeps us up at night) stations retrograde in late Aries. What have I been devoted to? What have I been keeping alive through sheer commitment? And is that still where my fire belongs? Vesta's station is a re-commit/re-consider pivot point. Should we still be tending a flame lit during the Chiron in Aries years? Situations will conspire for us to think about this.
Meanwhile, the Aquarius Moon gives us a quite remarkable emotional sequence of Moon conjunct Pluto then sextile Neptune then trine Uranus. Depth. Surrender. Liberation.
Something gets underneath us emotionally. We see or feel something more deeply than we expected. Neptune allows us to stop demanding an immediate explanation. And Uranus offers the breakthrough. We see it differently now. This is Luna, who always, always prepares us for the Eclipse.
WEDNESDAY - our reality doesn't quite fit the story
Then we get the Sun in Virgo making inconjuncts (actually quincunxes) to Pluto in Aquarius and Neptune in Aries. The inconjunct is important because it isn't a clean conflict. It is a rock and a hard place. Two energies that have nothing in common. Something doesn't quite fit. Nothing is resolved here.
The Sun, freshly minted in Virgo wants to understand through particular/pieces. Here are the facts. Here is the problem. Here is what needs fixing. But Pluto in Aquarius isn't so much into details, he asks - What larger transformation is already underway that makes the old way of organizing this obsolete?
And then Neptune in Aries asks the Sun something different. What if I don't actually know yet what this new reality is? So, the Virgo Sun (us) may discover that being more precise doesn't necessarily resolve the uncertainty. We are starting to get clear on the pieces but don't yet see how they fit together.
At the same time the Aquarius Moon opposes Jupiter in Leo. Now the emotional volume gets turned up. Something may suddenly feel very big, very personal, very meaningful. But the Moon then sextiles Saturn. Okay. Bring it back down. What is actually sustainable/real here? Finally, the Moon trines Venus, offering a little grace and relational ease before Thursday's mental pressure cooker.
THURSDAY - mental fog and the underworld - the explanation isn't enough
Thursday intensifies this whole thing considerably because we have Mercury inconjunct Pluto plus Mercury inconjunct Neptune plus Sun conjunct Mercury.
This is almost the culmination of the Virgo/Mercury story before the eclipse. Mercury wants to analyze, categorize, name and understand. Pluto wants us to go deeper. There is something underneath this. And Neptune says that we cannot understand everything through analysis. Some of this has to be sensed or intuited.
Then the Sun conjuncts Mercury. This isn't as common as you might think but happens about three or four times a year in different signs. The mind and identity/how we show up and shine temporarily occupy the same space. What we are thinking can feel very personally significant. This is what I now understand about myself. How is life showing you this?
This is a kind of CLEARING THE AIR moment before the Eclipse window opens/before the reset happens.
I wouldn't necessarily trust Thursday as a day for having the final answer. It could actually be a day when we realize that the explanation we have been using is no longer large enough to contain the experience we are having. That's different from being confused. It is outgrowing an explanation. Too much focus on needing to know isn't necessary helping us know anything. Mercury in Virgo will have some lessons this year. There is an empty Sagittarius leg to all of this - what do we actually believe? Or maybe we should be asking ourselves what would a person have to believe to think what I am thinking?
And that leads right into Friday because the North Node is in Aquarius now, but the Eclipse is still happening in Pisces where things cannot always be explained at our level of life. Where stuff is older than our memory. Where stuff is out of our hands.
FRIDAY - Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces with the Sun in Virgo conjunct Mercury and the Full Moon/Sun/Mercury all squaring Uranus in Gemini - THIS WILL HAVE ITS OWN POST
This is the BIG day, but Eclipses will not be constricted to any one day. They are events out of time and things happen when they happen. Sometimes a month before. Sometimes 6 months later. The squares to Uranus though do lock us into this week.
The Virgo/Pisces axis is fundamentally about discernment versus surrender, information versus knowing, fixing versus accepting, separation versus interconnectedness.
And after all that Mercury/Virgo activity, the eclipse in Pisces can tell us that we cannot solve this entirely by figuring it out. Something reaches an emotional or psychic culmination.
A Full Moon normally illuminates something that has been developing and an eclipse can make that illumination more consequential and also keep something hidden. And Pisces can reveal what has been dissolving before we consciously recognize that it is dissolving.
Then we have Mercury square Uranus and the Sun square Uranus both exact on this day.
This is the LIGHTNING BOLT.
(Uranus is going to station retrograde almost right where we are now on September 10th, so whatever this is will have revisions, reflections, reinventions, etc)
Uranus doesn't give us the answer. He breaks the pattern that prevented us from seeing the answer. Something changes our understanding because reality refuses to behave.
This can show up as - an unexpected event, sudden information, an unexpected conversation, a radically different perspective, realizing something we hadn't seen, changing our mind, breaking out of a repetitive thought loop.
And the Sun square Uranus makes it kind of existential at the same time. If this is true, who am I now?
EXPECT A BIG ECLIPSE POST!
The Pisces Moon's final aspect is a smooth trine to Mars in Cancer. This is good news and important because the Eclipse doesn't end with some crazy Uranian situation. It doesn't end with confusion. It doesn't end with a Saturnian wall. It doesn't end with Plutonian fear.
It ends with Mars.
And Mars in Cancer gives the Eclipse revelation somewhere to go. Feeling to action. This isn't necessarily about dramatic action. This is protective action. Instinctive action. Emotional action.
The kind of action that says - now that I know this, what needs to be cared for? What matters enough to protect? What is my next step?
We don't necessarily have to understand the entire future. And we won't. We may simply recognize what matters now. Vesta's strength at station will help us focus.
BOTTOM LINE - it may be a week about discovering which question no longer needs to be asked.
The week begins with Mercury on the South Node, bringing us an old way of thinking or we are thinking/talking about something old. It ends with a Pisces eclipse and a Uranian breakthrough, followed by the Moon's trine to Mars. We start by revisiting what we already know. We end by discovering what we can finally do with what we now understand. This is not "everything changes," but "our relationship to what is true changes and that changes what we are willing to do next." Something like this :)
Then next MONDAY we have the first of three Jupiter/Saturn trines which is one of the BEST aspects. Not the Venus/Jupiter fluffer-nutter kind of "best" but the real-deal kind of BEST. And this is a fire trine Leo/Aries. Saturn in Aries is about building something ourselves - the old being young/the young being old. Jupiter in Leo is about courage and confidence and faith and optimism. This is an EXCELLENT ALIGNMENT where things can work out and pay off in big ways, and it is just getting started.
September is coming and bringing some of these loose ends together, hang in there! :)
xo all - excuse typos and I will be back with the Eclipse posts next.
