the astrology of the full moon in aquarius | Part II - manwe and the law of grace

The Full Moon in Aquarius last Wednesday is probably the biggest lunation of 2026 that isn't an Eclipse - actually it is bigger than most Eclipses, so I thought we would unpack one of its most active lesser-known celestial bodies.

Let's take a look at asteroid (really what is called a transneptunian object because of his location and orbit). Manwe, at 6-degrees Aries who is in an EXACT sextile to the Moon and trine to the Sun/Jupiter.

We have talked quite a bit about asteroids, etc as "forgotten knowledge" (I would even include UFOs here)

They are discovered and synchronistically named as we are ready to work with their energies.

Manwe was named in 2014 for the chief of the Valar in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology about the creation of the world. The Valar are the 14 Archangels who came from the throne of Iluvatar to enter the world and create it. Manwe's mind is of the highest Divine Intelligence and most closely tuned to the original divine vision. In Tolkien's creation myth, Melkor, Manwe's brother, introduces discord into the 'Music' (Tolkien's world is basically sung into being). Manwe overcomes Melkor's discord. He does not defeat his brother by overpowering him - his answer to the discord is a new music. The 'brother' story is very Gemini - where Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, now sits. Melkor is the one who possesses enormous power but turns it toward self-aggrandizement. Manwe, the brother connected to divine vision, is merciful to Melkor. After Melkor's first imprisonment, Manwë believes that he may have repented and allows him to go free. That mercy has disastrous consequences and that's another story.

Astrologers have connected Manwe's activations to the Law of Grace which is something like a bypass/get-out-of-jail-free card for the Law of Cause and Effect (ie karma). The Law of Grace is a Christian concept but also included in spiritual teachings/thinkings outside of Christianity.

With Saturn's recent station in Aries (the lord of cause and effect himself taking a break/re-treat) and Manwe making his way through Aries and directly tied into the big energies right now there can be something here about CORRECTION NOT NEEDING TO COME THROUGH CONSEQUENCE

We are all familiar with the Saturnian model of karma. Action creates consequence. Imbalance must be met, understood, endured and repaired. But Manwe/Law of Grace introduces another possibility - the universe can sometimes correct without making us pay the full price of what we have created. Not because the action had no consequence or because the lesson was avoided. But because the purpose of consequence is restoration and not punishment

The forgotten wisdom of Manwe may be something like - correction does not require suffering. Manwe is in Aries/the beginning, the first impulse, the body, the moment of action. If karma says - you MUST work your way through the consequences of what you have done, then grace may say - at any moment you may stop. You may turn. You may choose differently. And the entire trajectory can change.

Not after we've completed the karmic curriculum. But right NOW.

We can see. We can become tired of the pattern. We can choose differently simply because, somehow, the inner conditions for a different choice have arrived. We don't have to lose everything to understand what we were risking. We don't have to be abandoned to understand how we are abandoning others (or ourselves). We don't have to become ill to understand when we are living against our own nature. We don't have to hit bottom.

The belief that we must hit bottom/or pay some price can itself become a karmic trapa way of confusing punishment with learning or consequence with moral worthiness. Maybe Manwe in Aries speaks about the return of agency before catastrophe. The moment when someone says - I see where this is going and so I am going to stop now.

(do we need to find God/Jesus to get to this point, I think probably not, but I do know Christ consciousness is extremely powerful)

Manwe at 6-degrees Aries - grace makes a different choice possible

Sun/Jupiter at 6-degrees Leo - grace is magnified through the heart, through generosity, through the willingness to trust life rather than remain identified with the old story.

Moon at 6-degrees Aquarius - the collective emotional field asks whether humanity/the collective can imagine a different future

Karma changes through effort. Grace changes the conditions under which effort is required.

And maybe this is especially significant because Manwe is not simply a figure of personal goodness or moral will. He represents a consciousness aligned with the original divine vision. So maybe grace is not something we earn by making the right choice. Maybe grace is the sudden arrival of a possibility that we could not have manufactured through will alone.

Manwe is also Lord of the Breath of Arda. His domain is wind, air, birds, clouds and the "invisible currents that move through the world". This is echoing our Aquarius/Gemini emphasis. Manwe's power is not the solidity of Saturn or the force of Mars. It is the invisible movement that changes the conditions of possibility. The wind changes. The bird arrives. More migration/flock imagery. The message comes. The air clears. The thing that could not move begins to move.

Grace is not necessarily the reward for having learned the lesson. Sometimes it is the arrival of a new theme before the old one has reached its final, most painful note. That feels very Manwe and very much like the kind of forgotten knowledge a trans-Neptunian body might carry :)

Something to think about as we start to prepare for Eclipse season/the mid-August energies.
