I can't believe I haven't looked at this Eclipse more closely sooner. My Cappy brain expecting dragons and finding unicorns is quite a delight! I am even using the word 'delight' which is not a jersey girl's kind of language. Delight. I like it. Although I am sure I will find some dragons for us to slay, too :)
(actually, I already see them - truths/what we have buried about the situation we are in, challenging words, disillusionment/disappointment - there is a need to confront what we don't want to see).
In general, Eclipses happen because of the Nodes of the Moon. The Nodes of the Moon are the points where the Moon's orbit around the Earth intersects with the Earth's orbit around the Sun. We talked about their recent move into Aquarius and Leo HERE. When we have a new or full Moon very near (conjunct) these points - causing one cosmic body to move into the shadow of another one - we get our Eclipses.
During these blockages, powerful portals are opened - we get a cosmic reset, much like a computer being turned off and back on and the program that uploads at restart is a little bit (or quite a lot) different than the one we ran on before. Eclipses change us, and we (vibrating differently) change our circumstances by attracting or repelling what our new self, i.e. new vibration lines up with.
Eclipses will eclipse something out or bring something to light or alternately cover it up and then the New Moon seeding will activate the promise of any slow-moving transit currently present in our life. They are 'times-out-of-time' and can even work backward, so the seeding may have already happened.
Let's unpack the chart!
The Leo Moon catches up with the Leo Sun on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, at 1:36PM EDT giving us this month's New Moon - our annual New Moon in the Sun's own sign of fiery Leo - and close to the Moon's South Node making this one a TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE.
The Moon and Sun trine Pallas in Aries - and more widely Saturn retrograde (separating). They also trine Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius giving us a loose Grand Fire Trine. And Venus in Libra trines Pluto in Aquarius trines Uranus in Gemini giving us a Grand Air Trine, too! When have we seen this! PLUS Mercury in Leo conjunct Jupiter makes the Grand Air Trine a KITE, so we know something is wanting to TAKE OFF. Sun God Helio and the Part of Fortune are EXACT on the Ascendent of a chart drawn for Washington DC and the North Node of Fate and the IC of this chart tightly surround the United States Aquarius natal Moon/the people. Venus opposes Neptune. Mercury opposes Pluto. Some of this we talked about in the weekly HERE. The Moon/Sun conjunction is Luna's final aspect in Leo.
At 20-degrees Leo this is fundamentally a creative, individuating, life-force eclipse. Leo asks - what wants to come alive through me? What am I willing to create, risk, express or lead because it is mine to do? What sign and house is your natal Sun? What sign and house is your progressed Sun?
And because the Sun and Moon are together, there is a kind of reset around identity and desire. Something may be asking to be born before we even have a name for it. AND we have this extraordinary network of support around it!
The Moon is coming off a trine to Saturn - authority/structures/goals/father. Since Saturn is retrograde, there can be a revisiting of an old ambition, responsibility, discipline, paternal story or unfinished projects. Something we once thought we would do. Something we started and abandoned. Something we told ourselves we were "not ready" for. Or even a skill we have developed over years that is now ready to be used differently. With Saturn retrograde in Aries, we are rethinking our relationship with ambition. There is a lot of energy for career change with this lunation.
THE AIR TRINE HERE IS THE REAL GIFT - Uranus in Gemini, Venus in Libra and Pluto in Aquarius create this beautiful circuit of mind and relationship and collective transformation.
And I really like that Mercury in Leo becomes the focal point. The opportunity is in giving language to something that is changing. Uranus in Gemini brings the unexpected thought, the new information, the conversation that changes our trajectory. Venus in Libra brings relationship, diplomacy, aesthetics, cooperation, reciprocity plus the ability to find another person or people with whom the new idea can actually live. Pluto in Aquarius says the idea isn't just personal. It has the potential to connect with something larger - community, the future, the collective.
The geometry describes a dynamic tension in which the opposition provides the directional force, while the grand trine provides the ease, resources and flow.
And with Jupiter alongside Mercury, there is amplification. The thought can become a vision, the conversation can become an announcement, the idea can become something that gathers people around it. A new possibility becomes real when we find the words to express it.
Mercury opposes Pluto - there are always some snags. Mercury/Jupiter in Leo opposing Pluto in Aquarius can be the individual voice confronting the collective. Who gets to tell the story? What happens when an old narrative no longer holds? What happens when someone says something that cannot be unsaid?
Pluto can make Mercury/Jupiter enormous, sometimes too enormous - keep this in mind. There can be propaganda, ideological certainty, inflated rhetoric and power struggles over information. So, this Eclipse isn't automatically "good news". No. BUT at its highest expression, it is the RECLAIMING of narrative power. Something that has been unnamed gets named. Something that has been privately understood becomes publicly articulated. And once it has a name, it becomes possible to do something about it/with it!
Venus opposes Neptune - instead of making this the “dragon/bad aspect” of the eclipse - let's call it the dream layer. Venus wants harmony, beauty, love, connection. Neptune can make us see what we hope is there rather than what is actually there. So, there can absolutely be idealization, particularly in relationships, alliances, financial matters or creative projects. But Neptune isn't only deception. It's also imagination.
And Venus is part of that air trine. The dream can become an idea. The idea can become a conversation. The conversation can connect people. And eventually the thing that was imagined can become something tangible. The caution is simply something like - don't confuse possibility with certainty. We CAN believe in the possibility without pretending we already know how it will unfold. And we will keep in mind that Venus is in Libra, her home, so this isn't a weak Venus getting swept into fog. This is a dignified, clear-eyed Venus staring straight across the sky at what is dissolving. This feels less like "delusion sneaks in" and more like "an accurate love/value is being asked to hold its shape against something trying to melt its edges." I hope I am making sense because this part is important. Don't take shortcuts.
This is a New Moon where smart RISKS CAN PAY OFF. With both Neptune and Jupiter involved there is certainly a possibility for things to look better than they turn out to be, but there is a strong WHAT HAPPENS IF I TRY? quality to this New Moon and then the Eclipse adds stickiness. Mars gets to this degree right around Election Day in the U.S. And next spring we have much of the results of the current energies.
And there is a SECOND GRAND TRINE. If the Grand Air Trine is giving the energy somewhere to go the Grand Fire Trine with the Moon/Sun, Black Moon Lilith and Pallas - is saying there is SOMETHING IN US THAT WANTS TO GO!
And look at the three fire points! We have the Leo Sun/Moon. The Sun is identity and the now and creative will and the Moon is instinct and history and emotional response. At a New Moon, they're fused. There is very little separation between what I feel and what I want to become. And in Leo, that's about creative self-expression, authorship, visibility, joy and the courage to make something that is uniquely our own.
Then there is the Sagittarius Black Moon Lilith - Lilith adds a refusal to be domesticated by someone else's expectations/we won't be shamed into not wanting what we are perfectly entitled to want. In Sagittarius, she can be particularly uncompromising about freedom, truth, belief and the right to follow one's own understanding. There is something rebellious about this point of the fire trine. I don't need everyone to agree with me before I trust what I know/feel.
And finally, the Grand Fire Trine has Pallas in Aries. Pallas is pattern recognition, strategy, intelligence, the ability to see how the pieces fit together and what we can do with them. In Aries, that intelligence becomes decisive and self-directed. Pallas doesn't sit around forever analyzing the pattern. She recognizes it and she moves. Forward.
BOTTOM LINE - a bold new cycle is opening around creativity, romance, children, joy and the things that make life feel alive. We may not yet know where these beginnings will lead, but there is considerable momentum behind them. Let what is genuine - not the need for recognition, approval or control - be what guides your way forward. The challenge, since this is a South Node Eclipse is to distinguish authentic self-expression from the old stories of who we think we need to be.
The eclipse can show us where something has outlived its vitality, even when our minds can still make a convincing case for keeping it.
xo all
(this one will likely have a Part II where we look at some collective happenings and politics and we will poke our heads into the next Eclipse in two weeks - we are in the Eclipse spin cycle now folks, anything can happen)
