the astrology of the disappearance of nancy guthrie | not the astrology of strangers climbing in windows

I once did quite a few crime charts for a true-crime Facebook group and sometimes on this blog, so let's take a look at this new case in the news. 

A disclaimer here - there are things astrology can and cannot do. I’m going to stick with symbolic reasoning and avoid anything that would imply identifying a real person or definitive outcome. When this case is solved, and the astrology indicates it will be, we will re-look at the chart and the facts. Also keep in mind this is simply my eyes looking at the chart - the astrologer is always part of the equation. Different eyes will see different things. 

At approx. 9:30PM EST on the night of Saturday, January 31, 2026, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was dropped off at her home. She lived alone, was healthy, active and mentally fit. The next day Nancy was reported missing and her daughter, Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was called. Police who have inspected her home announced they believe Nancy was abducted. That's about all I know when I am writing this. 

Let's look at the chart. 

Since the police believe Nancy was abducted from her house, I have pulled the chart ahead to about 11:40PM to get the ruler of the ascendent (Venus) into the 4th house of home. The crime probably happened somewhere around this time. This is a strikingly radical chart. We have Libra rising - Venus as victim significator. Moon as co-significator (victim) strongly afflicted in Leo - outmanned/overpowered by that Aqua stellium. Heavy Aquarius/Leo polarity in 4th/10th - private space vs visibility, sleep vs sudden shock. Already the chart is reading more INTERRUPTION, FORCE, REMOVAL than confusion/disappearance.

Nancy is Venus surrounded in Aquarius/4th house - embedded. Venus isn't strong here, so Nancy, even in her own home isn't either - she is without agency/power/a victim in her own home. Vulnerability during sleep/detachment (Aquarius). This is something happening to her rather than something she initiates. 

The 4th house/crime scene - multiple malefic energies (this doesn't necessarily indicate more than one person, we will look at that when we get to the perpetrator) = crime happens in the home, Aquarius = nighttime, electricity, suddenness, intrusion. Pluto plus Mars = force, domination, physical threat, could be an ending here. Mercury = movement, possible argument/attempt at verbal persuasion, removal, transport, possible gagging or silencing. The Moon is opposing Pluto indicating loss of body autonomy, extreme fear or extreme power imbalance, a moment that permanently alters circumstances. The crime scene does not look good. 

The perpetrator (7th house/Mars) - 7th house empty, ruler Mars in Aquarius in the 4th. Mars conjunct Pluto (wide but still impactful) - Mars under Pluto’s command. Acting under compulsion, obsession or extreme internal drive. Mars in Aquarius can show planning or at least mental 'rehearsal', detachment from emotional consequences, using a window of opportunity, use of tools/devices/tech. Pluto suggests control and not impulsive chaos, but things can be pushed further than originally anticipated and the timing can be more driven by emotions than typical Mars/Aquarius. 

Chiron on the descendent (perpetrator) opposing the ascendent (victim) - shows a wound being enacted by another, someone who feels wronged, someone projecting pain, rage and grievance outward, harm is inflicted/acted out from unresolved trauma or the act itself creates an irreversible wound. Aries as ruler of the descendent suggests a younger male, likely alone or if acting with someone else, the other person would be in a subordinate position. 

Chart lands in the 8th house through Uranus (conjunct Algol/losing your head). Uranus/8th house can indicate a sudden break with lived reality. Life-or-death moment. Having the ruler of the victim in the 8th house is not a good sign for outcome. 

Nancy Guthrie was born on January 27, 1942. That chart, her natal chart, has amazing resonances with the crime chart. This is not a random crime. This event is about her/a karmic fated interruption rather than an accident. Nancy has a natal Sun/Venus/Mercury in Aquarius. Event chart Sun/Venus/Mercury in Aquarius. Transiting Pluto opposing natal Pluto. Uranus return with natal Saturn (endings)/Uranus (chaos) conjunction. The North Node is conjunct her South Node. There is a strong natal/event resonance. 

This chart - taking her natal into consideration, too - could describe a woman asleep in her home whose bodily autonomy was abruptly and forcefully overridden by another, in a moment that permanently severed her from her former life.

Let's look at the Moon which is also the victim and can be used to track - what happened/happens next? The Moon is at 3 degrees Leo and opposing Pluto (I am estimating time, so we can't think about applying or separating aspects when things as so tight). The Moon is conjunct her natal Pluto. The Moon in Leo at the top of the chart makes me think - mother of a celebrity - also that the case will become known and authority will be immediately on top of things/active. 

So, what does the Moon do next? First let's look at what we don't see. After the Pluto aspects - both natal and by transit - the Moon doesn't make any beneficial applying aspects to a benefic. This is important and not good news - a quick sextile to Venus or Jupiter could argue for recovery/safety, but this isn't there. The Moon does eventually apply to Jupiter in Cancer and this is significant even though it's not immediate because Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and he is in the 10th house - symbolically this can speak of intervention, protection, authorities, visibility. But the Moon must travel some distance to get there and the fixed nature of Leo could argue for delay/not a fast recovery. It looks like whatever the ending is -it is dependent on others. Remember that Moon in Leo is outmanned by that Aquarius stellium. Luna cannot easily run/signal/self-rescue. The Aquarius Eclipse on February 17th could be significant for timing of information since it is tightly conjunct Nancy's natal Mercury - but Eclipses are not so great at timing since they work backward and forward. And something is always hidden ... 

Motive? The chart has some indicators for a financial motive. 

It looks much less like a robbery gone wrong and more like an entanglement over assets/care/control or access. Maybe something ongoing and not a one-off theft? Maybe resources tied to dependency or responsibility? It doesn't look like a ransom situation. I think communication would be more central, for example Mars in Gemini/Virgo, Mercury in Scorpio, etc. 

Mars/Pluto wouldn't want loose ends/long negotiations. 

We have asteroid Nessus at the near exact and tight mid-point of the Saturn/North Node conjunction in Pisces and remember Nancy has a natal Saturn/Uranus conjunction in Taurus and a natal Nessus/Mars conjunction in Taurus. 

This pulls the North Node of Fate and Nessus into this story. The Nessus myth can connect to 'trusting untrustworthy people with precious cargo'. Nessus/North Node can indicate a karmic repetition, conjunct Saturn a betrayal of duty/trust, abuse of a role. Nessus isn't about random violence - it's about someone entrusted who should not have been. 

Third party situations. Very old karma. A boundary violation involving access - was access legitimate before it became abusive? This is not the asteroid of strangers climbing in windows. 

The 'famous daughter' does show up with the Moon in Leo (which can literally be stating - mother of celebrity/mother of one who is known/in the spotlight) - but I don't think the daughter is a direct financial target. Her prominence certainly matters symbolically - she is part of the picture - but is maybe not a main motive here. Her daughter's chart is highly active though, so it would be hard to say for sure. This is definitely a story about Nancy. 

This chart has some very real challenges for a happy ending, but let's keep in mind, this is all symbolic and there are many ways to read things. Nancy was born with asteroid Angel conjunct her South Node and the transiting North Node is conjunct her natal Angel/South Node now, so maybe there is protection with that ....

When this is solved, we can go back and relook at the astrology. In the meantime, prayers for Nancy and her family.

Nancy's daughter Savannah Guthrie has an exact to the second natal Venus/North Node in Aquarius - Pluto in a tight conjunction now along with her mother's natal Sun. Savanah also has a natal 0 degree Aries Mars, so Neptune has just moved onto her natal Mars and she will have the Saturn/Neptune conjunction there in a couple weeks ... and Uranus is about to move onto her natal Saturn so all the malefic planets active for her right now ... :(
