the meaning of the astrology of the New Moon in Aries | March 21, 2023 - ain't no turning back now ....

If you are here, alive on this planet right now, and I assume you are if you are reading this, although some days I wonder about all of us :) well, we are IN IT.

Things are LIT as the kids say. Or does everyone say this now? I need to keep up.

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 1:22PM EDT the Aries Moon meets up with the Aries Sun at 0 degrees launching a new lunar month and year. This is impulsive, fiery energy.

Years ago I heard an astrologer say that for Aries, life is something like, "Ready. FIRE! Aim.".  And, yes, this is what we need to be cautious of here, BUT not so cautious that we don't make a move, take a risk/the call/a chance.

Aries says speak up, do something, it's GO TIME, ready or not.

Let's unpack the chart!

The New Moon meets the Sun at 0 degrees Aries. The Moon opposes a retrograde Ceres in Libra EXACT. The Moon sextiles Pluto in Capricorn. The Moon is inconjunct Saturn in Pisces. The Moon squares Mars - ruler of Aries and ruler of this lunation. Mars is conjunct asteroid Chaos EXACT. Mars squares Ceres. Mars trines Saturn (applying) and squares Neptune (separating). Venus is conjunct the North Node in Taurus and also conjunct Juno EXACT. Jupiter is inconjunct Uranus EXACT.

The Moon meets the Sun at 0 degrees Aries. We are starting from the very beginning with something. 0 degrees Aries is called an Aries point - first degree of a cardinal sign. Our collective attention is together, so often this means big things are happening in the world. An Aries point New Moon pretty much assures collective events will be important.

As with all New Moons, the skies are dark. The seed goes into the ground. The sperm goes into the egg. The start is in the dark. We can't see what is happening/where this is going. In fiery Aries, starts can be fast, impulsive, passionate. Things can come up quickly and we are going to WANT TO RESPOND. What are you feeling fired up about? Head in that direction. With the Sun and Moon together our life force/energy and our emotions are on the same page. Our conscious and unconscious in the same space/portal. Conjunct planets initiate new beginnings. In Aries, it is no less than our very IDENTITY that is impacted - we are BECOMING SOMEONE NEW.

The New Moon opposes Ceres retrograde in Libra. This is our needs/wants vs those of our partners.

Since this is exact here we are definitely needing to deal with this with whatever is starting. Oppositions can bring endings/culminations. For something to start, something else needs to end. This might speak of a relationship ending or the need to correct some kind of imbalance in our life. With Ceres here, this could be about a nurturing or caregiver situation, child/parent for example, and something NEW comes along that requires us to rethink/re-examine/re-prioritize the care we are putting into someone/something, so we can put more care into this NEW thing or ourselves.

Since Ceres rules the seasons of our life and things outside our control, this might be about a "change of life" situation that closes one door, our foot in the door will only get crushed - it's closing -  and then the New Moon opens another.

(I know about this crushed thing from experience. I was in Florida for a few days last week. I will tell you guys all about it in a later post. I was getting dropped off at the airport and I went to stop the car door from closing, I think, wth I was doing is kind of unclear at this point, but I was standing outside the car with my hand on the door.  I managed to totally close the door on my thumb. The door was closed flush with the car and my thumb was in the door. Crushed. I had to open the door with my other hand and I was thinking OMG I just broke/crushed my thumb, MY RIGHT THUMB, and my trip is canceled. But, luckily for me, and my right thumb, they must make these car doors with more cushioning these days because it wasn't broken. It was flattened, then swollen, cut up and throbbing, of course and  I had to sneak some contraband ice - although it's a solid not a liquid anyway, or that was what I was going to say if caught - onto the plane and then proceeded to ice it for about a steady 24 hours. It's still a little wonky and swollen, but doesn't hurt and will be ok - my life flashed before my eyes though .... maybe I have a strong right thumb from holding cans of propane to braze, like I think, or maybe, as hubs says, I had my hand in exactly the best spot, if there is a best spot for such thing, where the door curves, to prevent total demolition. Either way that was number 1 of about 100 surprising things from my trip, I will tell you guys about :)

The New Moon's sextile (creative opportunity) to Pluto catches Saturn, ruler of Pluto right now, at the mid-point. With Saturn freshly minted in Pisces and in this awkwardness with the New Moon, the materialization of solid things will not be a straight line. But, since he rules that sextile I am thinking some roadblocks/limits will end up being a 'blessing in disguise' kind of thing. Note this aspect is separating/has somehow already happened.

Venus and Juno are tightly conjunct and have just passed over the North Node and opposed the South Node.

THIS is the future. Right here. Right NOW. The one we have attracted by focusing on what we TRULY VALUE (or not). By being slow and steady (or not). By seeking moderation and quality (or not). By leaning into something more simple and stable (or not). By having mutual respect and dignity within our relationships (or not).

Keep in mind conjunctions start new chapters which, of course, unfold from the preceding chapter. Note Juno is retrograde and about to back into Virgo when she will be all about fixing the relationship stuff that isn't working (or ultimately forgetting/releasing what isn't fixable as she opposes Saturn at some point not too far from now).

Venus/Juno are opposing the South Node. Oppositions are endings and the opposition to the South Node is kind of echoing Ceres opposition to the New Moon. Something needs to be released here to free us up.

Scorpian "somethings" can be about complicated entanglements, third party situations, debt, compulsions, manipulations - a loss of power in some area of life might be expected/need to happen in order for us to focus on the new seeds in the ground, which, keep in mind, we can't really even see yet with these dark skies, so might not even seem worth it at this point. The stars say otherwise.

Mars has recently started covering new degrees in Gemini, the sign he has been back-and-forth in since August. This is important to notice. Also he is in a mutual reception - for a VERY BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME THAT INCLUDES THIS NEW MOON ACTIVATION - with Mercury in Aries. This is good news. Mars - as us - is covering new ground and can get to Aries (back to himself) through Mercury. Mercurian pathways include our thinking, ideas, conversations, information, tech, siblings, transportation. This is a better position than Mars, as us, was in even a week ago, so keep that in mind, We aren't pulling the Mars crap we have been dealing with FOR MONTHS into this New Moon fresh start.

Mars is in a complicated position though and he rules this New Moon.

He is still out-of-bounds/not playing by the Sun's rules. This might sound like a good thing if you are feeling somewhat rebellious, but it usually isn't. He forms a T-Square with the New Moon/Sun, although out of sign and it will never perfect, so it's aggravating and we can't get past it, because it's not really even there. We might in some way, and this isn't always a bad thing, feel pushed into both the fiery fresh start in Aries and the Libran ending/conclusion. His smooth and stabilizing trine to Saturn does perfect and will reach perfection (exactness) on March 30th. This is our actions harmonizing with the rules/authority/structure, or our dreams, and will be Cancer/Pisces so maybe more emotionally and intuitively stabilizing than rock solid, but that's ok. It will feel good.

Mars is also EXACTLY conjunct asteroid Chaos.

Yes, I know, so, that doesn't sound good and is kind of re-emphasizing Mars being out of bound and the fact Pluto is about to go into Aquarius and start answering to chaotic Uranus. Chaos would likely indicate a period of doubt, overwhelm and confusion. This New Moon event catalyzing chaos isn't really surprising with everything going on in the world right now.

For us, personally, anytime we have an Aries New Moon, because Aries is the first sign and doesn't know what it doesn't know - we are going to have to deal with some chaos. We are going to need to be brave, and Aries IS brave, so there we go. We might want to turn around and go backward, but with so many planets about to change signs within just a couple days there is no way this is going to work - except maybe the Ceres/Libra relationship/nurturing/change of life thing - and even that we may have to just throw up our hands at some point.

There is no point looking backward because there is nothing back there for us anymore. This will likely be brought home to us over the next month.

Mars sits at 28 degrees Gemini during the New Moon which is the home of fixed star Polaris. Polaris is also called the North Star (if you were standing at the North Pole it would be directly over your head) and is located at the tip of the tail of the small bear and has been used as a navigational star for centuries. This is probably the star we were wishing upon as children, so I like to think it carries the energy of millions of childhood wishes (one of the reasons I named my lockets, Polarity).

Let's think of it like that ...

To bottom line this New Moon in Aries - we get the energy for a fiery, bold, brave NEW START likely focused on ourselves. We are at the very, very beginning of something. We can't see where this going and things will be subject to change. Chaos is likely. We don't know what we don't know, so we need to stay flexible. If we are still exhausted from all the Pisces we have been dealing with, I know I am, well, we don't have to run a marathon here and all this Aries is designed to WAKE US UP - ie motivate us/aggravate us/spur us to action anyway.

The price of admission, yes, there is a cover charge to open this new door, is the ending of an imbalanced nurturing situation or relationship that needs to culminate or be scaled back to allow this New Moon energy the fertile ground it needs to flourish (Ceres back into Virgo will help us fix it or forget it).

Keep in mind - there is an unusual and potent second New Moon in Aries - which is an Eclipse - in about a month, so there are some 'second chance' vibes in play, although the world is going to be a very different place by then, being that Pluto will have changed signs for the first time since 2008 and Mars, ruler of this lunation, will have moved on, too.

What are you going to do proactively with this energy?

Start with your affirmations. They will help you get clear about what you want/what you need to do. I'm thinking somewhere around 4PM EDT on the 22nd as the Moon applies to her conjunction with Jupiter and sextile to Mars. The morning of the 23rd is good, too.

If we chart the course of the Moon in Aries we will see the Moon meets the Sun, then Mercury, then Chiron, then Jupiter, then goes void off a sextile to Mars (remember that square we start with to Mars is out-of-sign), so as we move through the New Moon cycle we move into that creative opportunity/sextile with Mars.

Since the Sun and Moon are together we can chart this New Moon through the Sun, too. The Moon does everything within a couple days and then the Sun : meets the Moon on March 21st (New Moon), the Sun won't catch up with Mercury because Mercury is FLYING (we will be, too), meets Chiron on April 5th (light on a wound/vulnerability), meets Jupiter on APRIL 11th (Venus will also be trining Pluto this day, mark your calendars, this is about luck, faith, love, power), the Sun won't sextile Mars because Mars will also have moved on. So the solar story from this New Moon ends with that conjunction with Jupiter. Sun/Jupiter is hopeful, lucky, expansive energy.

So we have a good closing aspect for the Moon and a good closing aspect for the Sun - this is always a good sign and, I think, a good place for me to stop :)

New Moon Affirmations

This New Moon is an excellent time for energetic support to make changes with things ruled by Aries (and your natal/progressed Aries house themes) - the head (headaches, acne, eyes, brain), the overall physical self, exploration, initiative, courage, leadership, strength, stubbornness, impulsiveness, temper tantrums, anger, stress from inaction/worry - what do we need more of in our lives, what are we needing to release.

AFFIRMATION TIPS: get into a calm, centered frame of mind - always make affirmations from a  positive space (meaning both certain and upbeat) - write your affirmations down by hand in script, speak them out loud. With a fire New Moon maybe write your affirmations on strips of paper and burn them. Now release your attention from these things knowing that your intention is known

Know these things are already yours

Back with the Pluto into Aquarius world changes post I have been procrastinating .. oh my
