weekly astrology forecast | May 1st - May 7th, 2023 - Mercury meets the Sun, Pluto stations retrograde, big lunar eclipse in scorpio opposing uranus, clarity, death postponed, fated And surprising endings

May kicks off with a bang this week.

There is alot going on.

The first couple weeks of May look the most challenging. Once we get past the middle of the month, Mercury will be direct, Jupiter will be in Taurus (!) for the New Moon in Taurus and Mars will finally get into a fire sign when he reaches Leo where he is much more comfortable and effective. Hang in there. Keep moving.

In the meantime Eclipse season is rumbling to a boil!

MONDAY - Mercury retro conjuncts the Sun, Pluto stations retrograde, Venus squares Ceres

TUESDAY - Juno enters Gemini, Pallas enters Leo

THURSDAY - Venus squares Neptune

FRIDAY - Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Scorpio, Venus sextiles Jupiter

SATURDAY - Ceres stations direct

SUNDAY - Venus enters Cancer

On MONDAY, Mercury retrograde meets up with the Sun at 11 degrees Taurus. This is the Sun illuminating/shining a light on our Mercury retrograde story. Solar conjunctions are also beginnings, a new story starts from the re-visioning of the old one. We should know where we stand with whatever we have been going back and forth with. Often when Mercury retrograde meets the Sun we can SEE why the re-visions, re-versals and re-thinking was needed.

Pluto, at 0 degrees Aquarius, stations retrograde. Now the transformation, life/death situation, power struggle, the DEATH, is postponed. Armed with the new world Pluto in Aquarius has opened up/also the can of worms - what are we going to do now? Happening as a retrograde Mercury meets the Sun in Taurus - which collectively speaks of our resources, Earth, our values, our self-esteem, our MONEY - tells us this is all part of the same opportunity/can of worms.

Venus, at 23 degrees Gemini, squares a retrograde Ceres in Virgo. Venus in Gemini wants a little of this and a little of that - is good for diversification/trying out new likes/desires. Ceres is backtracking through Virgo, determined to FIX our relationship with nurturing/that thing that is outside our control/that change of life situation via a practical/focused effort. The square shows tension/frustration between our need to be _____ (you fill in the blank here, some possibilities would be - social, flexible, communicative, commercial, dualistic) and this retracing of our steps in Virgo through Ceres. This can also show up as two different people - someone wants to play/write/socialize/flit and someone else wants to FOCUS ON FIXING WHAT NEEDS FIXING. Notice Ceres will station direct at this same degree in just a couple days, so this meeting with Venus matters. Venus kind of comes in here like - what about this thing you like and that thing you like? "Life can't be all work, Ceres in Virgo". Or if we are Venus, busy doing this and that, Ceres will zero us in on, likely via a challenging circumstance, THE THING THAT NEEDS FIXING.

Alot going on Monday, and, of course this won't all be happening on Monday, this is just when the energy is exact, but it will be happening/is happening.

Keep in mind, all these energies are in play at the same time. Nothing happens separate from anything else, so they can't really be parsed out. As Pluto stations retrograde - and he rules the Scorpio Full Moon later in the week - on his way back to 29 degrees Capricorn (he will get there on June 11th), as he takes us back to the old dying world that we have literally already squeezed all the juice from, after giving us some taste of a fresh new orange (that may not look anything like any orange we have ever seen before and might even taste sour at this point as unripened fruit is apt to do) he has Mercury retrograde meeting the Sun (illumination) and Venus squaring Ceres - this tension/frustration between, maybe something like (this could look different for different people) - choices and practicalities. Also notice Ceres and Venus are both answering to Mercury since they are in signs - Virgo and Gemini- that Mercury rules. So, their story sort of meets the Sun, too. This should be hard to miss.

On TUESDAY, both Pallas and Juno change signs. This brings fresh energy into tired situations.

Juno is about our intimate relationships/partnerships and also what we will do/put up with from "the king" to retain the power we get from the "king". As she moves from fixed earth to mutable air, the conversation changes. Relationships can lighten up. Stuck situations can come unstuck. Some things that seemed rock solid might change as we need to diversify/make new choices. Details shift. Juno will be in Gemini until June 22nd when she moves into Leo (this will be within hours of Ceres entering Libra, the Sun entering Cancer and Vesta entering Gemini).

Keep talking, but keep things light. I wouldn't use the energies this week for any deep conversations unless they can't be avoided. Words that cut now will take a long time to heal.

Pallas's move into Leo makes her the first planet/planetary body to move us into the Sun's season. We will take some of that! She is our warrior Goddess/father's daughter energy - and I am talking about a father's daughter like Siobhan Roy (if you are watching Succession on HBO, and if you aren't, well maybe you should be), not a princess in any sense of the word - and she moves into the space of our heart, our centerstage, need for appreciation, need to have fun and take some risks. Pallas in Leo will see us showing off what we have created/boldly strategizing for ATTENTION. Hiding our light in a barrel (is that right?) won't work. We are going to need to stand out. Creating what makes people happy will be a STRATEGY. Pallas will be in Leo until July 10th when she moves into Virgo (this will also be the day Mars enters Virgo and they meet each other and within hours of Mercury entering Leo - Mars and Pallas in Virgo will be answering to Mercury).

On THURSDAY, Venus in Gemini squares Neptune in Pisces (26 degrees).

Sometimes squares with Neptune can make us tired, make us sick, take some of the wind from our sails. They can show us we might need some time off/a break. It is also possible because Neptune in Pisces is very 'rose-colored-glassy' we could be more idealistic about how something here is going to turn out than it actually turns out. These are mutable energies. We need to stay flexible. Choices can be confusing. It will be hard to know what to do, maybe especially in regard to Venusian things and situations - relationships, financial, beauty, with women, etc.

Some Venus/Neptune square word salads could be - dissolving resources, attraction to drugs/alcohol/escape, delusional attractions, confusing social interactions,, unrealistic expectations with love or money, a fool for love, the things we want eluding us, sadness with the choices we are left with.

Double check information.

The good news for us, is that immediately following her square with Neptune - where maybe we are kind of forced to get real about something as the delusion/illusion/the feeling we have all these choices dissolves -

Venus sextiles Jupiter on FRIDAY. This is supportive and happy energy, so after we have this dissolving there is still hope/optimism. And although I haven't studied the Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Scorpio chart just yet, we know just from the fact it is a Full Moon in Scorpio it is speaking of some kind of ending, and kind of echoing the Venus/Neptune.

The Venus/Jupiter now, both our benevolent planets in a rather benevolent aspect, is good. Venus is in Gemini, so speaks of more than one opportunity/more than one way to move forward. The opportunity/blessing - Jupiter - comes through expansion/stretching/being generous/taking a small risk. Jupiter is in Aries for only a couple more weeks folks - this beginner's luck thing won't last forever!

We will talk more about FRIDAY's Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio in a BIG ECLIPSE post!! Note at the Full Moon in Scorpio as the Earth's shadow blocks the Sun's light and eclipses the Moon, the Sun is conjunct Uranus. There could be surprises/disruptions with our resources, values, finances, Taurus house theme.

Note this disruption is also LIBERATING. And the Venus/Jupiter is PROTECTING. Life loves us, do not doubt this.

We will look at this in greater detail in the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse post next. This is our final Scorpio Eclipse for 18 years and is our final Scorpio Lunar Eclipse (a powerful woman leaves) for 36 years - is totally connecting collectively with the UK's loss of the Queen and coronation of the new King. Astrology is amazing. Totally amazing.

On SATURDAY - Ceres stations direct at 23 degrees Virgo. Now we are starting a final pass through whatever we are FIXING with that Ceres theme - nurturing, change of life, mothering/nitpicking, things outside our control - situation and/or our a final sort out of the Virgo situation that needs greater attention/nurturing.

On SUNDAY - Venus moves into Cancer, where she is very comfortable.

Cancer Suns and Risings become more attractive - both able to attract what they want and easier on the eye. All of our Cancer houses become more attractive, too.

Venus themes will be emotionally tended to. We will require more emotional connection to feel safe and secure. We will want (or feel the lack of) whatever feels like nurturing to us. Home becomes a more valuable space. Family is a resource.

Our empathy increases along with our hurt feelings when we don't get what feels like "mom and apple-pie".

What we want (Venus) is to feel safe (Cancer).

Cancer is both the mother and the child. So we get what we want/need by being cared for and by caring for others now. Ruled by the Moon, who changes signs every two and a half days, Cancer can be moody. Our emotions around what we want are subject to lunar whims now, but the actual thing we want can become more solid. The active feminine energy (Venus) connects with the responsive feminine energy (Moon). What we need (Cancer) meets what we want (Venus).

Since she's an inner planet, when she changes signs, we feel it and experience it personally - and we move the collective energy forward (as opposed to the outer planet transits that move the collective energy and then we adjust to that).

Venus is much more comfortable in Cancer (ruled by her friend the Moon) than she has been for the last month in Gemini where she's been attracted to and attracting "one thing after the other". She's been flirting and "keeping things light" but nothing really turns into anything here.

Cancer is about nurturing, history, mother, comfort, home. The Cancer house in our natal chart hosts lovely Venus for the next few weeks. So, let's say you are a Gemini rising with Cancer in your 2nd house - this transit will wake up your finances/values house and allow you to be more attractive to what you want and need. If you are a Taurus rising with Cancer in your 3rd house - this transit will allow you to more effortlessly attract new opportunities through communication (also sibling, transportation, local community issues will almost certainly improve), etc, around the zodiac.

Universally, home and family will feel more precious. We will want to feel safe. We'll want to move in the direction of whatever feeds this need now.

Mars is in Cancer and although they won't meet up, just having our masculine and feminine energies in the same sign could prove helpful, but also make all of us more moody and emotional. Venus will be in Cancer until June 5th.

Ok, back with that BIG Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Scorpio post next!
