On April 17th, 2026, at 7:52AM EDT, the Aries Moon meets the Aries Sun at 27 degrees giving us this month's New Moon and launching our NEW LUNAR YEAR.
At a late Aries degree, it carries the energy of what has come before it and WHAT HAS BEEN BUILDING. There can be a sense that something can’t be postponed any longer. The Moon asks - what are we ready to START and what can’t be avoided anymore?
This is the initiation energy after the fog - Mars/Neptune (holding a space of uncertainty) - and after the wound is illuminated - Sun/Chiron (seeing ourselves as we really are, warts and all), Sun/Eris (seeing the ways we are excluded/left out or acting out from these spaces). After the Sun/Jupiter (expanding what is possible/widening our vision). And after Mercury went into Aries (our focus/words sharpen) and met Neptune (our focus/words dissolve).

Then we have this New Moon seeding and THEN the Mars/Saturn COMMITMENT this weekend. NOTE - I am not saying 'the full steam ahead this weekend' because this is more something like - the New Moon seeds. Mars/Saturn commits. This won't be fast or flashy. This is - I’m building this, however long it takes. I’ll learn by doing. I’ll stay.
Let's unpack the chart.
The Aries New Moon is the kick-off of our New Lunar Year. The Moon meets the Sun at 27 degrees Aries. The Moon is conjunct Chiron. The Moon is conjunct Eris. The Moon squares Pluto in Aquarius - applying and out of sign. There is a MEGA-STELLIUM of planets and asteroids in Aries including - Neptune, Borasisi, Mercury, Photographica, Manwe/Mars (ruler of this lunation), Saturn, Atlantis, Salacia, Persephone, Heracles, Sphinx, Eris, Chiron/Itokawa, Moon/Sun and Okyrhoe. Mars is conjunct Saturn (applying) and Neptune (separating). OK. Whew.
If I dare strip this New Moon down to its essence - Pisces season dissolved the old story. Aries is not giving us a new one neatly packaged. Instead, it’s saying - "ACT, and your identity will organize around the action." That’s the uncomfortable part. Because we mostly want some kind of clarity before we take action, but this sky is saying ACTION THEN CLARITY.
Because we have Mars (ruling this lunation) and conjunct Saturn (with Neptune still in the room), so this is not, "I’m ready, let’s go". We can't sit around expecting this. This energy is more like, "I can see there is no clean path, but I’m committing anyway."
Mars/Saturn in Aries is about disciplined will, constrained action and our effort meeting resistance IMMEDIATELY. And because Neptune is still in the dining room having that third cup of coffee (separating but not gone) - WE DON'T GET CERTAINTY AS A REWARD FOR COMMITTING.
Because the thing that is being seeded isn't the thing we are seeding/starting. The thing that is being seeding is our DECISION TO BECOME SOMEONE THROUGH ACTION and not before it. This is the version of ourselves our future self is needing us to start becoming! It's not as much about the thing we are starting as about the way we go about starting - am I making sense?!
And the New Moon's applying square to an out-of-sign Pluto - meaning the square won't become exact until the Moon is exalted in Taurus (which is good news actually) - says that even in this very personal sign of Aries this ISN'T JUST "MY" NEW BEGINNING. There is collective pressure here. There is a hand reaching back from the future and exerting force on the present. The square speaks of a confrontation/tension/frustration with values, resources, security and what must change at the root. This new beginning comes with a PRICE TAG.
And there are Saturn and Neptune in Aries with the Sun and the Moon and Mars - and the whole cast of characters - the dream and the reality and so we have the old/mature acting young/the fool and the young/the fool required to grow up/do what they are doing before they know how to do it. And we are, all of us, all of these characters and also somewhere in here the director/star of our own play handing out roles to other people. Even when it looks like we are the ones being handed something. Life is a PUZZLE.
And then there is the New Moon's conjunction to Chiron/Eris who have been joined at the hip for some time - all of us, and some more than others, unable to separate the wound/vulnerability from where we have been EXCLUDED. And maybe this is the part most of us will feel most personally. "Oh… that’s still a sore spot" or "Oh … I am that person in this situation" or "Oh … I can’t keep pretending I don’t want this/won’t do this." There is some kind of truth coming in or has just come in that disrupts the identity we have been struggling to maintain. And Eris brings the energy that doesn't allow us to stay polite about it.
What we are starting will require consistency over intensity. Presence over any need for perfection. Commitment over our mood. We are not rushing toward an imaginary finish line. We are agreeing to build something and to stay with it as it becomes whatever it is going to be.
And in beginning (verb) we let the 'doing' show us who we are ...
There are no 'right' answers right now, or if there are, I don't have them. I do though, hope something here is helpful.
