On Tuesday, July 14th, 2026, at 5:43AM EDT, the Cancer Moon catches up with the Cancer Sun giving us this month's New Moon - our annual New Moon in Cancer. ALWAYS an important New Moon since Cancer is the Moon's home sign/the Moon comes home - this year the whole thing is amplified by the unprecedented astrology of the next couple weeks which will fall in this New Moon cycle.
Cancer rules home, family, our roots, mother, mothering, our ancestry, real estate, country, patriotism, home businesses, family businesses, the root of the matter - our emotional security - and, of course, the theme of your personal natal chart's Cancer house - this is where we get the NEW BEGINNING. The New Moon is an excellent time for fresh starts and new projects as they will grow/wax as the Moon does. Old behaviors and beliefs can be replaced by more caring and nurturing actions and attitudes. Cancer is a cardinal sign, ushers in a season and wants to/needs to START.
OK, that's every Cancer New Moon - let's see what makes this one tick.
Let's dive right in and unpack the chart!
The first thing I see is that the New Moon is Luna's final aspect in Cancer. Then she goes void for most of the day/more than twelve hours. To me, this is kind of repeating the fact that Mercury is retrograde in Cancer - take a beat. Slow down. After meeting the Sun, the Moon takes a time-out and we should, too. Keep in mind that although, yes, this is tied into Tuesday, it is also symbolic of the next two weeks. Take a breath. Think things through (which with Mercury retrograde in Cancer really means feel things through, twice). New Moons happen in the dark - we can't always know what is starting.
The Moon meets the Sun at 21-degrees Cancer. This is exactly opposite 21-22 degrees Capricorn where "time ran out" back in 2020. This is also conjunct the U.S. natal Mercury.
The New Moon is conjunct Mercury retrograde. The New Moon squares Saturn - separating. The New Moon squares the Vesta/Pallas conjunction is Aries VERY tightly. The New Moon inconjuncts Ceres in Gemini (separating) and Black Moon Lilith in Sag (applying) who oppose each other, so all Goddesses are on deck and activated now. Venus squares Uranus and of course we have the sacred geometry of the outer planets we have talked about in other posts. I am going to stick to just lunar aspects here.
MERCURY IS RETROGRADE IN CANCER and conjunct the New Moon.
Cancer is always asking - what needs to be protected? What belongs? What deserves to grow? But with Mercury retrograde sitting right there - having just passed through cazimi - the questions become much more REFLECTIVE. What have I misunderstood about what actually nourishes me? What have I misunderstood about my story? Mercury has just emerged from the heart of the Sun.
Symbolically, there has been a REVELATION, but Mercury is still RETROGRADE. The insight isn't ready to be acted upon yet. It needs to be lived with. The new lunar cycle begins with a mind that's been burned clean and re-seeded, but is still retrograde, so the knowing is revisionary, interior, not yet ready for announcement. This is important because New Moons usually imply planting seeds. This one feels more like selecting the right seeds before planting.
SQUARE TO SATURN SEPARATING/SQUARE TO VESTA/PALLAS TIGHT - With the New Moon’s square to Saturn unwinding we have just had some kind of REALITY CHECK. The Vesta and Pallas being nearly exact shifts the emphasis. Vesta is about our sacred attention/the fire that MUST be kept lit/the thing that is keeping us up at night. Pallas, as always, is thinking STRATEGY.
Together in Aries, they're asking us to become very intentional about where we're directing our energy and intelligence. Cancer protects. Aries initiates. The square speaks of tension/frustration. We CANNOT protect everything. Which home? Which family? Which project? Which emotional investment? Which fire? These are very Vesta questions and then smart/brave Pallas in Aries adds something like - CHOOSE WISELY. This feels especially relevant because the collective astrology is about to accelerate dramatically. The New Moon seems to say - "Before everything speeds up, decide what you're actually carrying with you."
Pallas is associated with wisdom and with Mercury retrograde in Cancer (and squaring Pallas) WISDOM MAY COME FROM REMEMBERING. Pattern recognition is Pallas's specialty. Cancer remembers emotionally. Mercury remembers intellectually. What have we already learned that we keep forgetting? Also, Pallas and Vesta are in fiery Ares, so surely there is something here about making sure the new emotional beginning can survive contact with what we've vowed to defend.
THE CERES/BLACK MOON LILITH QUINCUNXES - Ceres in Gemini is trying to feed multiple possibilities (in Gemini, she is about nourishment through words). Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius refuses simplified truth/represents exiled truth. What we deserve to know. The New Moon has to ADJUST to both. We can't nurture everything. We can't keep pretending that one story explains everything. Care and wildness both sit askew from this New Moon's seed/planting. Nothing on that axis can feed it directly. My least favorite thing in all of this might be that Ceres aspect since Ceres is the Earth Mother - averse to the Moon in her own sign. Hmm.
Cancer wants emotional certainty and the quincunxes deny certainty. Instead, they ask for adjustment.
We have had Mercury retrograde in Cancer enter the heart of the Sun/met the Sun. We have started to understand/maybe verbalized certain memories and family situations. Then the Moon meets the Sun and starts a new emotional cycle. Then the Moon immediately goes void/makes no connections. Then the Moon enters Leo and catches up with Jupiter - this is an important activation of the sacred geometry. Maybe when we emotionally feel it - the Moon in Leo days. Then Jupiter begins activating the entire outer-planet geometry that has been set-up at the end of this week and into next.
(I almost wrote the words outer-planet grid again and can't help thinking of this invisible tech architecture that is luring us in like flies to the spider).
Life is like a movie, and the script is being re-written. The stage is set. The actors know their old lines but are waiting for the new words. The universe seems to insist. Wait. This is not because nothing is happening, but because everything is about to. It won't be long now ...
Heads up - I will probably have to start the weekly as a daily (tonight I will put up tomorrow, etc) and add to it since I have tickets to a play today/Sunday and it looks like I will need my wits about me to write it.

Congressman Lindsey Graham (whose Uranus/Mars never met a war he didn't like, whose Uranus/Mars also lived an alternative male lifestyle, while avoiding public support of others' rights to) died last night. The New Moon is conjunct his Sun which was conjunct the U.S. Sun. His 5-degree Jupiter in royal Leo was being opposed by Pluto (transiting Pluto right on his natal Chiron) and he was having his Jupiter return. Mitch McConnell is also rumored to be very ill. He has a 4-degree natal Jupiter in Leo and 5-degree natal Venus in Aquarius - both feeling the applying Jupiter/Pluto. He also has the transiting North Node on his Sun and had his Uranus return (has lived a full/complete life cycle). Maybe the fall of these two old kings will be enough to sate the energy of the upcoming Jupiter/Pluto, Sun/Pluto, Nodal switch and August Eclipses ... I doubt it.
