PART I is HERE - what future are we choosing
PART II is HERE - the side quest/wedding
PART III is HERE - the bedtime story
PART IV is HERE - the basket
PART V is HERE - by sign/personal
We are going to talk about this in the weekly, but the more I think about this one - exact for the first time on Sunday, July 19th, 2026, the more I think it needs its own post.
URANUS TRINE PLUTO - what happens when disruption becomes the organizing principle of collective transformation? And we can see how this is already happening!
This is a repeating aspect due to Uranus and Pluto's retrogrades. I am including the dates in this series, but we will focus on this first one, so my head doesn't explode.
July 19th, 2026 - Uranus 4 Gemini | Pluto retro 4 Aquarius | Mercury retro in Cancer, Moon in Virgo (Mercury/Moon mutual reception)
November 29th, 2026 - Uranus retro 3 Gemini (where Mars met Uranus on the 4th of July) | Pluto 3 Aquarius | Mercury in Scorpio
June 15th, 2027 - Uranus 8 Gemini (conjunct Venus) | Pluto retro 6 Aquarius | Neptune 6 Aries | Mercury retro in Cancer, Moon in Scorpio
January 13th, 2028 - Uranus retro 6 Gemini | Pluto 6 Aquarius | Mercury in Aquarius conjunct Pluto/Mars/North Node
May 9th, 2028 - Uranus 8 Gemini conjunct Mercury | Pluto 8 Aquarius
The last time we had a series of trines between Uranus and Pluto was the early 1920's. What was going on in your own family history then? The world saw the birth of new political orders (fascism, communism), the rise of consumer culture, Irish and Turkish Wars of Independence and the end of major WWI conflicts. In the United States women got the right to vote, we had the Harlem renaissance, flapper/jazz culture/prohibition. But these years also set the stage for the tensions and transformations of the 1930s - the trine did not necessarily mean “good change/golden age”, but it did mean that Uranian disruption and Plutonian power could move together with extraordinary ease/the brakes were off.
The signs are radically different now.
Back then we had Uranus in Pisces and Pluto in Cancer. There are some connections to this time around though. Maybe especially with this first trine because we have the North Node in Pisces and Mercury retrograde in Cancer.
Mercury retrograde in Cancer (which will repeat next summer/highly unusual) is an IMPORTANT COMPLICATION. It makes me less comfortable with a simple “air sign trine = networks, information, decentralization” reading of this.
Because Pluto in Aquarius is answering to Uranus and Uranus in Gemini is answering to Mercury, and Mercury is currently retrograde in Cancer. The Uranian revolution in information, communication, technology and networks is ultimately being filtered through Cancerian material. Home and homeland. Family and ancestry memory and nostalgia. Belonging. Protection. Emotional security. The imagined past. The nation as an extended family.
So, for now, we have this crazy contradiction - Uranus in Gemini wants to open the network and Mercury (Uranus ruler while in Gemini) retrograde in Cancer wants to return to the nest!
And that absolutely does echo the 1920s more than I initially thought.
The danger is that new technology and new forms of communication do not necessarily produce a more open world.
They can be used to intensify nostalgia, tribal identity, nationalism, fear of outsiders and the mythology of a lost home that must be restored. In fact, the Uranus-in-Gemini/Mercury-in-Cancer relationship could describe a kind of technologically accelerated nostalgia. The past can be retrieved, edited, circulated, mythologized and emotionally weaponized at crazy-fast speed.
And with Mercury retrograde, I think the question is particularly about the past returning, but not necessarily the past as it actually was. Mercury in Cancer can retrieve memory. Retrograde Mercury can revise, re-edit, reconsider and sometimes reconstruct. So, we may see the past becoming a powerful political and cultural tool. Who are we? Where do we belong? What was taken from us? What must be restored? Who belongs inside the home and who does not? We can see/feel how this whole thing has been BUILDING.
That is very different from the purely liberating Uranian narrative.
And there is another layer - Cancer is ruled by the Moon and the Moon changes signs every couple days, so Mercury's retrograde condition does not simply make detached Uranus emotional. It makes the Uranian process responsive to collective feeling. Information is not merely being exchanged - it is being received through a highly emotional, ancestral, protective nervous system.
Pluto in Aquarius is answering to Uranus and trining Uranus. Uranus in Gemini may revolutionize the way information moves, but with Mercury retrograde in Cancer as its dispositor, the content being carried through those new networks may be profoundly concerned with home, memory, identity, belonging and the RECOVERY OF AN IMAGINED PAST.
For now.
This trine is a repeating aspect/a series and Mercury will not always be in Cancer/not always retrograde (note we do have something similar next summer with this aspect).
The difference is that in the 1920s the technology of mass communication was still relatively centralized - radio, newspapers, cinema, propaganda. The current configuration may create something more diffuse and more difficult to control - every person potentially becoming a transmitter of emotionally charged historical narrative.
This trine is asking - can the future be built? but ALSO what happens when the future is built using the emotional material of the past?
And that is where I think the Jupiter in Leo opposition to Pluto becomes so important.
Jupiter in Leo can magnify the leader, the national myth, the heroic story, the singular figure who embodies the collective. And remember we had Hercules/Heracles exact at the Saturn/Neptune conjunction back in February/the start of this thing. Then Pluto in Aquarius is the network, the system, the technological collective. And Uranus in Gemini connects them.
So, the very same network that can decentralize power can also amplify the person who claims to embody the nation. Now if we step back, we can see how this has all been building to this moment/this time period for the United States, a Cancer country.
The future may be built through the networks of Uranus in Gemini, but those networks may be carrying the ghosts of Cancer.
And with Mercury retrograde, some of those ghosts are not finished speaking.
