On Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 at 2:59PM EDT, the Taurus Moon meets the Taurus Sun at 21 degrees giving us this month's New Moon - our annual New Moon in Taurus.
As with all New Moons, the skies are dark. It is the time of beginning. The seed goes into the ground. The sperm goes into the egg. The idea goes onto the paper. The nail into the wood. And specifically this is a Taurus New Moon, so collectively about a fresh start with our values, our self-esteem, our finances, our resources, our earned income.
Taurus likes comfort and ease and stopping to smell the roses. But this energy isn't about being lazy. This is about our ability to savor. And to put down roots. The New Moon in Taurus always makes me think about stewardship - the
responsible care we take of ourselves, our families, our businesses,
our planet.
Let's unpack the chart!
The Moon is conjunct the Sun at 21 degrees Taurus. This trines the 'time ran out' mega-planetary merger back in January 2020. She is sextiling Neptune (in Pisces) and trining Pluto (in Capricorn). She squares the midpoint of Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius. She inconjuncts Juno (in Sagittarius) EXACT. She sextiles Pallas (in Pisces) and conjuncts Black Moon Lilith. The ruler of this lunation is Venus. She is at 3 degrees Gemini answering to Mercury (also in Gemini and conjunct the North Node). Mars is sextile Uranus EXACT.
The Moon/Sun are trining Pluto - brakes off - this is about inhaling authority, making adult decisions - being EMPOWERED, knowing our own value because we are talking about a trine to
Taurus, and not being afraid of empowering others (
understanding this doesn't really cost us anything, there is no dearth of abundance on this planet) and this all just happening rather effortlessly as we step into our own shoes/boots- covered in top soil as they are. With Pluto retrograde, this speaks of past inheritances/resources owed. Old mergers and intimacies. "Re"production. Pluto rules what we do in the dark and what we've been encouraged, through culture, to keep
hidden. With Pluto in our Cappy house of career/goals/achievement, this New Moon is good for solid, long-term growth here from anything started over the next two weeks.
The Sun and Moon are sextiling Neptune. This is applying - the Moon
moves into her exact sextile within hours, the Sun on Thursday which is
also the day Jupiter moves into Pisces and starts answering to Neptune! Fixed earth and mutable water. Making the dream real. Neptune in Pisces has been showing us - for years - how we numb out, escape, dream our life away, avoid reality. Also how to create through our imagination, love without boundaries, connect with others, connect with our ancestors/higher power/God. Neptune in connection with earthy Taurus brings repressed/ancestral emotions into our consciousness/into our physical bodies and lives. Neptune rules our collective 12th house of 'what is behind us'. We are formed from everything/everyone that has come before us, but from our perch in the first house, we can't see behind us. But we can feel/sense what is back there. So now, the stuff back there is touching our physical life. Mystical experiences are possible. The sextile is an opportunity to either ground the past in the present or release the past through the present. There is healing here - opportunities through our creativity/art/music/spirit. Taurus/Pisces also speaks about security/comfort through escape/relaxation.
There is something at this New Moon, contacting both a retrograde Pluto and Neptune in his home sign, about the re-owning/re-claiming of our old ancestral stories. And other storylines that have outgrown their usefulness will come to our attention eager for release.
The New Moon is squaring the Aqua midpoint between Saturn and Jupiter. Our responsibilities to the group/the future. Some tension/frustration with limits/rules/authority built into this new beginning or maybe the new beginning flows from these challenges. The square to Saturn is waning and the square to Jupiter not culminating until the Moon (and then Sun) get into Gemini with Jupiter in Pisces - so the fixed nature of this square will become more mutable/changeable - there will be more options later than we can see from under these dark skies.
The ruler of this lunation is Venus in Gemini - answering to Mercury in Gemini conjunct the North Node. Venus in Gemini is about sharing our ideas/thoughts. What we need/love/want is flexible/kept light because it is subject to change. The theme of duality is emphasized with Venus here - more than one way to value ourselves, own things, make/have money. Maybe more than one seed goes into the ground now. Multiple things may be starting.
With Mercury conjunct the North Node of Fate (exact on MONDAY) information could come in/a conversation happens - that points us in a new direction, confirms our course or draws our focus to something we need to follow up with. PAY ATTENTION. Be out and about. Talk/keep things light. There could be more than one way forward here.
The Moon/Sun inconjuncts Juno. This is exact, so worth paying attention to. Juno is about our relationships/contracts (also the way we look the other way to preserve the status quo or our own status). After being a major player this past year as our relationships/partnerships bucked and swayed, she is in Sag now offering us more hope/optimism/greener pastures. Today, she is in a rock and a hard place with the New Moon. This is Sag vs Taurus. Sag energy is more easy come/easy go, able to take risks, money/resources want to circulate. Taurus is more cautious/holds down the fort, more about security and personal comfort, money/resources want to accumulate. So, some kind of give and take is needed here. Nobody really wins, but if handled correctly no one has to feel like they are totally losing either. Responsibility is actually a necessary partner to freedom. Adjust.
The Moon's sextile to Pallas in Pisces speaks of smart decisions/choices made with our intuition/through ethereal connection/help from our ancestors/guides. This is separating so likely this decision has already been made/news already been dealt with. The Moon/Sun is conjunct Black Moon Lilith. This one is applying, so still to come. This is in Taurus, the lush garden from which BML was unceremoniously tossed. Something about us that has been abandoned/kicked out/called unacceptable is allowed/required to take root here, too. We can't grow whatever it is we are planting any other way than our own.
Mars is exactly sextiling Uranus and the New Moon is just past her own conjunction to Uranus - so maybe something unexpected/sudden has come out. Possibly the day before the New Moon or maybe sometime quite a bit earlier depending on our relationship with Uranian energy. Now, at the New Moon, with Mars sextiling, here is an OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE ACTION ON SOMETHING NEW. Mars is in home/family/security focused Cancer, so something about this could be driving our actions/decisions now. The New Moon in Taurus happening at the same time will give whatever this is more stability and staying power.
Keep in mind everything is happening with Jupiter at the 29th degree of Aquarius, so something has been thought about/analyzed/detached from ENOUGH. Tired of facts and figures and logic, he (as we) will be in Pisces - his ancient kingdom - in just a couple days and can feel the pull of those warm, soothing, emotional waters. Also keep in mind, this New Moon ushers us into Eclipse season, culminating as it does in two weeks with the first Eclipse of 2021 - the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse - a total - in Sagittarius. So, here is kind of our last solid ground for a while. This isn't a good thing or a bad thing. It just is what it is. Some practical steps need to be taken.
As for the Moon herself, if we simply follow her story through Taurus we get a good overview of the New Moon story.
The Moon sextiles Mars - our new storyline with its roots in home/family/mothering. She meets up with Uranus - here is the surprise/unexpected. So, yes, maybe what we thought was
stable won't be quite so stable - but keep in mind - what we thought was
impossible will not be quite so impossible either. This could indicate a heightened concern or attention to finances/resources/income or we might feel this as a desire to break free of constraints/fixed situations. The Moon squares Saturn - here is the tension/frustration with limits/group dynamics or responsibilities/authority. She meets the Sun - the new story officially begins, the seed goes into the ground. She inconjuncts Juno - the partnership/contract - the rock and a hard place, the circulation vs the accumulation, an adjustment. She sextiles Neptune - mystical experiences/ancestral timelines pulled into our physical life, the dream meets the practical tools to make it work. The Moon trines a retrograde Pluto - old karma/inheritances, merged finances and physical mergers - this is smooth energy, earthy, practical, no pushing will be necessary, empowerment through KNOWING OUR WORTH. Her final aspect a bigger-is-better/over-the-top square to Jupiter at the very, very edge of Aquarius (about to move into something less logical/detached and more emotionally connective). So, could the challenge presented by the Uranus "surprise", the Saturnian reality check and Juno's partnership/contract snafu be an OPPORTUNITY in disguise?! That's what it looks like!
And, keep in mind, Venus in dualistic Gemini (ruler of the Moon) - more than one answer/way forward, information that points us in a new direction, following up on leads, talking, listening, keeping things light, staying flexible and able to CHANGE OUR MIND.
This Moon looks like a keeper to me.
This is the way we are building the New Earth, folks - one Moon, one month at a time.
NEW MOON INTENTIONS
This new moon in Taurus is an excellent time to begin a grounding
practice, make affirmations and set intentions about Taurean ruled
themes (especially the theme of your natal Taurus house): love, money,
contentment with what we already have, patience, self-worth, releasing
stubbornness, health issues regarding our neck, throat and voice in the
world.
AFFIRMATION TIPS: get into a happy, contented frame of mind - HUG A TREE (she needs you, too!)
- always make affirmations from a positive place, and both
definitions of positive apply here - happy and certain. Write your
affirmations down by hand in script, speak them out loud - then release
your attention from these things knowing that your intention is known.
Know these things are already yours.
Also remember affirmations are
action - they set the energy in motion and by working with the right
things at the time of the New Moon we are literally creating the
affirmation within the energy that is needed to bring our words to life.
Words are not just words
and now we have Venus - ruler of the New Moon - in Gemini and answering
to Mercury - the God of language whispering into the ears of the North Node of Fate, this makes our
words even more powerful.
If done properly, in the right frame of mind and heart-felt, our intentions line
us up energetically with the thing we are seeking.
In Taurus, the stuff we start now will stabilize us and pay off for us later.
