At 5AM EST on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, the Pisces Moon meets up with the Pisces Sun at 20 degrees, giving us this month's New Moon - our annual New Moon in dreamy and imaginative PISCES.
In two weeks we will have the BIG Full Moon in Libra, a Lunar Eclipse and powerful follow-up to last October's New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra - the one that asked us to deal with "imbalanced relationships" (with the follow up Full Moon in Aries telling us we 'might have to fight'). Two weeks after that Full Moon, so about a month from now, we will have the New Moon in Aries - that's the BIG Solar Eclipse we will be talking alot about.
In the meantime, we now have this New Moon in Pisces.
Pisces is a mutable sign. The mutable signs prepare us for the change into the next season and this Moon really has her work cut out for her!
Pisces rules our collective 12th house where there is NO separation between us and everything else. There is no time. There is no space. This is where we find God/spirit/the Universe. Pisces is the last house - it rules endings and the things we do last. Because the 12th house is behind the 1st house (our physical selves) we can't easily see what is there - it rules what is behind us, what is done behind our back, what we have put away, our past, the things we have forgotten, memory, our ancestors, sleep, charities, prisons, hospitals.
All endings are beginnings, too, and this is a New Moon, a time of beginning, but Pisces new beginnings sometimes are more flavored by what is ending.
The positive expressions of Piscean energy include - connection, imagination, music, art, empathy, compassion, healing, spirituality, transcendence of the physical world. The negative expressions of any energy are really the positive expressions taken to an extreme. So imagination becomes delusion/lies, empathy becomes martyrdom, transcendence (lack of physical connection) becomes addiction, escapism, mental illness, self-sabotage.
As the Moon naturally waxes (grows) over the next two weeks, and over the next 6 months until the Pisces Full Moon next September, so does whatever is set into motion now.
Besides the monthly lunar energy of "new beginnings" this particular Moon has its own relationship with the other players in the heavens based on her position as she meets the Sun.
That is where the real juice of any particular New Moon can be found.
So let's UNPACK THE CHART!
The dark Moon meets the Sun at 20 degrees Pisces. They are sandwiched between Saturn and Neptune. Reality and non-reality in the sign of non-reality! The New Moon is closely sextile Uranus in Taurus (separating). The New Moon is semi-sextile Mars in Aquarius, squares Vesta in Gemini and opposes Black Moon Lilith in Virgo. Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, so the ruler of this lunation - is home in Pisces, widely conjunct the New Moon, semi-sextile Venus and squaring the Galactic Center EXACT by degree.
Let's start with that 20 degrees since we have been looking at 20's for awhile now. This is the third of three New Moons at 20 degrees, so we know there is something here we really need to SEE.
I like to look at numbers through multiple lens, one being the iChing. Hexagram 20 in the iChing is called 'seeing'. We've talked about this before in terms of that lead goose heading into new territory. Not being overly focused, but instead just kind of WITNESSING everything. Seeing what is present - and this 'seeing' can be a slow process or one that is very fast, especially with that sextile to Uranus.
Because we are talking about Pisces now, I am not thinking as much about that lead goose approaching a lake as I am thinking about us being the lake and seeing the geese approaching.
In April when Jupiter and Uranus meet in Taurus, they will meet at 21 degrees. 21 is called 'biting through' and is a thunder/lightning "cracking something open" type of energy. 21 is a big deal number. I also see it as Juno's number. Connected to Saturn. The energy that is 'next to' power/next to the king. Power is the 22. In the iChing 22 is 'beauty'. This is a master number in numerology and I see 22 as THE power number/the king. The highest space, and, so there is a very real need for this space to be impermanent. The flower fades. The waves wash away the beautiful shoreline. The king falls.
Think about how in the cycle of life on Earth - which is never stagnant - beauty is the PEAK. In nature - beauty is born, peaks and fades. Most of the heartache on Earth is us trying to change this cycle that can't be changed and hold onto the peak! There is an astrologer who calls the number 22 the "kill or be killed" number and I can understand that, although I see it differently.
Anyway, we now have the third of three New Moons at 20 degrees.
Seeing. Situated between reality/Saturn and non-reality/Neptune, so maybe this is a time when we are working through some kind of disappointment. The Full Moon that preceded this one was a 'reality check' with the Moon's opposition to Saturn. Now the Moon and Saturn are on the same page - even if that page is a bit waterlogged and blurry.
The sextile to Uranus speaks of opportunities for new solutions and the fact that aspect is separating - and tight - tells us the new solutions are RIGHT HERE. This isn't so much about getting rid of something (although some things are certainly dissolving), but about embracing and appreciating what we have and where we are and FINDING NEW SOLUTIONS (which are not necessarily answers!). And we have Mars squaring Uranus with a freshly minted Mercury in Aries answering to this tense/frustrated Mars - words can be fired off carelessly, actions taken impulsively and with the New Moon sandwiched between reality and non-reality where anything happening now is actually going to land is very hard, if not impossible, to know. Dis-connections now can be permanent, keep this in mind
The New Moon opposes Black Moon Lilith. BML is on her trek through Virgo until June. An earthy Virgo opposition, to anything now might not be such a bad thing, with all this illusive Pisces. But it also pulls in a SCAPEGOAT energy onto which we can project all the crap we don't want to see about ourselves/our situation. If we can avoid that and avoidance itself is Piscean, so this might take effort, but if we can avoid the BML scapegoating and the Virgo judging/criticism and just SEE what life is showing us - and the skies are dark, so again, this is going to take a bit of EFFORT - we will be able to see connections with things - and especially with things bigger than ourselves and our current circumstances - in new, and maybe even magical and certainly healing ways. Self-acceptance will be key here.
The New Moon squares Vesta in Gemini. Now this one is applying, so strong, and the Moon reaches this exact square within hours and the Sun reaches this exact square within days. Vesta is making her third, and final, pass over this area of Gemini - and since this is repeating the - third time lucky, three strikes you're out - thing of the "20" degree Moon, we will spend a little extra time here. Vesta in Gemini is making a final pass over a - fact, conversation, choice, idea, information, duality, etc - having looked at things from both sides by now and offering Luna, our emotional self, her best take on the situation. Vesta is the keeper of the flame that must be kept lit/our sacred devotion - so, in Gemini - and she finally exists Gemini at the end of this month - we get to QUESTION WHAT REALLY MATTERS TO US. Or maybe we are asked to choose between two things. Vesta's questions and solutions (whatever we have been going back and forth over, whatever has been keeping us up at night) come in at an awkward angle, through tension and frustration, during this New Moon cycle.
Neptune squares the Galactic Center. So we have the Moon and the Sun situated between Neptune and Saturn in a square to the Galactic Center (black hole in the center of our Milky Way Galaxy) that might operate, at times, as something like a psychic vacuum cleaner. The only way out of this madness looks to be that sextile to Uranus, the planet of change and holder of trauma, but that's separating, so also speaks of the fast changes that got us into this mess. If the Galactic Center is a kind of homing signal/emptiness and the world seems strange even if we can't always point out why AND the chart shows no need to rush and also maybe no need to hesitate - well, what do we do with THIS? Well, I suppose our best bet, besides watching out for self-sabotage, addiction/escapism (if you are in the U.S. with St Patrick's Day approaching, often a time with alot of drinking going on, you will probably want to be cautious with all this Pisces energy), scapegoating, obvious inherited messes - our best bet will be to figure out how to best work with these Pisces energies. The North Node is still traveling with Chiron - although they are separating - and we probably want to take note of where there is pressure to do things we don't want to do and where we are still doing/carrying things that have dried up. If we are using an overriding amount of our energy to keep ourselves safe/keep things the same - this is going to make things even more uncomfortable as that square to the Galactic Center is likely to bring us to cross-purposes with any realities we have outgrown.
BUT if we can use this New Moon energy to release/let drift away the stuff that is only lightly moored to us anyway - ask yourself, "why am I still doing this? having this? being this?" we might find ourselves sitting fallow for a bit - think of the emptiness of that Black Hole. And THEN almost surely we will be better able to access our intuition/CREATE from a cleaner space and we can see where we are. Where we stand. Or sit. Or lie.
To bottom line this one.
Don't expect to be totally clear on anything right now. The New Moon's best aspect is a sextile to Uranus, so whatever is started will almost certainly move ahead in unexpected directions.
Some things to keep in mind when working with this New Moon's manifestation cycle over the next couple weeks:
1. BE WHO YOU ARE on purpose 2. Release expectations 3. Water (Pisces) and electricity (Uranus) do not sound like a good combination and sometimes they aren't, but if you think about the power of lightning storms you can get some idea of the mega-capacity of the energy you have to work with 4. With all this water - imagine a damn being flooded over - our barriers will be weak and our intuition will be high
Know this is good energy with both Saturn and Neptune enveloping our Moon/Sun in Pisces to create NEW DREAMS. We just need to stay flexible with this and not get too wedded to outcomes.
Also, at the time of this New Moon we have Mercury, freshly minted in Aries, sextiling Pluto in Aquarius. Also, note this is the last New Moon will ALL MAJOR PLANETS DIRECT. Also note, and yes, I know you are not really taking notes. last year at about this time, Mercury in Pisces sextiled Pluto in Capricorn. This year the vibe is totally different. Totally new. The words we speak/hear/absorb during this lunar cycle (the next two weeks) have the ability to EMPOWER. As well as destroy.
This would be something to keep in mind now, too. Maybe write that one down :)
There is always magic in a Pisces New Moon. Set your intentions. Allow things to drift in and out. Listen to music. Make art. Meditate. Pray. Get into/near water. Get enough sleep.
New Moon Affirmations/Intentions
This is an excellent time for energetic support to make changes with things ruled by Pisces (and your Pisces natal house theme!) including our imagination, compassion, releasing victim-hood, spiritual healing, sensitivity, trust, addictions, our lymphatic system, colds, our feet, toxicity.
AFFIRMATION TIPS: get into a positive frame of mind - with 'positive' meaning both happy and certain and in a quiet, clean space where you can be alone - write your affirmations down by hand in script, speak them out loud. For a watery New Moon I will write my affirmations on strips of paper and burn them, releasing the ashes into moving water - then let's release our attention from these things knowing that our intention is known.
