weekly astrology forecast | january 6th to January 12th, 2025 - here is what comes next, challenges with authority and limits, choosing between the past and the future, mars brings the war home, breakthroughs are coming

So, where are we? The holidays are over.

We may, or may not, have set some intentions at last week's New Moon in Capricorn which lined up rather nicely with the more traditional New Year's resolution timeframe.

One way or the other a sober lunar cycle kicked off - something started.

LAST WEEK, Mars, backtracking in Leo - re-thinking and re-working the actions we take from pride, a need for attention/appreciation, a need to follow our heart, our ego - backed right into an opposition with Pluto in Aquarius. We might be or have been empowered by challenges or taken down by greater forces. Taking ownership of our ego, anger, power and NOT projecting this on someone or something else would be the way to go here. We want to be consciously working with any changes and endings. Pluto always asks demands that we own our shadow. Something to keep in mind when he is activated.

THIS WEEK, Mars is going to back into Cancer/come home. This is not the best space for Mars, but he can be very protective here which can be a good thing. We can also take action that is TOO protective, because a retrograde Mars in a sign where he isn't comfortable to begin with can be tricky. We will have to deal with and face things we would probably rather avoid. WE, through these Martian energies of action and initiative and momentum and anger and passion are RE-COVERING the ground we covered back in October and November. We are re-assessing the way we use our energy, our current projects, how we go about getting what we want, etc.  And, of course, for each of us personally our natal Mars and the house he rules will be impacted, too.

Mercury, finished with his/her own retrograde and covering NEW ground (so we should be, too - new ideas, words, conversations, etc) is going to square Neptune, move into sober Cappy and square the North Node in Aries. Lots of twists and turns there.

Ultimately, Mercury in Capricorn is good news for where we are. Yes, there is a kind of cold practicality with this placement, but it's been earned and it's needed. It's the job of Cappy to reality-test Sagittarius after all.

The holidays being over is not a bad thing - it is just what comes next.

This week looks challenging right out of the gate.

MONDAY - First Quarter Moon Aries, Mercury squares Neptune, MARS RETURNS TO CANCER

WEDNESDAY - Mercury squares North Node, Sun squares Chiron, Mercury enters Capricorn

SATURDAY - North Node enters Pisces

SUNDAY - Mars trine Neptune

MONDAY - A tricky day as Mars backs into Cancer - the next phase of 2024/2025 "the war comes home". Old family issues or home/real estate/home business/mother situations are activated. Life will conspire to trigger childhood and maternal patterns for the next few weeks. This is about old anger and old actions. We will all be more sentimental/emotional/MOODY, and those things, as well as a strong need for SECURITY will be driving the train now - keep this in mind.

We also have our first quarter Moon today which is the first Sun/Moon challenge to last week's Cappy fresh start energy. This is us, our freedom, independence and action challenged by our reputation, ambitions, work, career, AUTHORITY. We might have to bang our head against the rules and limits a bit here. Break tradition. We might feel antsy and impatient. Limits and responsibilities will feel VERY LIMITING. We might need some time alone and to prioritize ourselves and doing our own thing. The bottom line and in general - this is some kind of tension between the world/maybe authority and ourselves.

What is your goal here and why?

Squares bring tension and frustration and push us to TAKE ACTION.

This is also the day Mercury, approaching the end of his/her days in bigger-is-better/preachy Sagittarius, moves into a square with dreamy Neptune. There could be a disappointment here, confusing information or maybe a LIE. Words can drift off course. Hard questions may need to be asked, so avoid hints and bullshit. Be direct. Take a breath and give yourself time to sort things out.

The Neptune square can actually support the antsy and angry energy of the Aries Moon as it pulls in a contact with our DREAM even though it is through a testing square. The Neptune can pull us off our game though and give us a reason to escape, drift off course or QUIT.

Mercury (as us) has just been through a retrograde in Sagittarius where our beliefs have been TESTED. Maybe we can see we have more to learn or teach. Maybe, we have been back and forth with a foreign, political, publishing or legal situation. We could have been rethinking our hopes/faith. We might have been called to fulfill old promises. Mercury is finishing this all up as she/he prepares to exit this extended stay in Sag. This finish comes through this dissolving square with Neptune (which also says to watch your boundaries and take your vitamins) and follow-up challenge with the future and our more independent life.

AGAIN, WHAT DO WE WANT? What is the goal?

WEDNESDAY - the Sun in serious Capricorn makes a square to wounded healer Chiron in independent Aries. This could stimulate an uncomfortable situation with authority as any insecurities we have around being ourselves is triggered. Maybe we are dealing with our own inexperience or a lack of respect from someone else, etc. Our ego is wounded. Vulnerabilities are made visible via tension/frustration. Again, here, there is need for some kind of action.

Mercury enters Capricorn and squares the North Node in Aries.

Mercury gets serious and goal-oriented in realistic Capricorn. So, he/she got the big idea/the truth/the expansive news from the Sun (in Sag) which has been depleted/diluted by that Neptune square and now that we have sobered up with it a bit, we move right into this square (tension, frustration) with our more independent and self-sustaining future.

With a square to the Nodes of Fates we could be literally pushed, through - news, information, ideas, our career, reputation, goals, authority - to choose between the past and the future. The Nodes are moving on folks. This is the FINAL aspect withe the Nodes in Libra and Aries and it is a PUSH to take action - this one matters!

Capricorn is a serious sign. It rules the dead of winter and that indomitable mountain goat who just puts one foot in front of the other until he reaches the summit. With Mercury (thoughts, communication, ideas) moving into Capricorn, our words will want to be taken seriously. Communications will be fact-checked. Sentences will be properly punctuated and spell checkers will be applied. Ideas will be more traditional, at least for awhile. Words that are focused and precise will be most effective now.

When we take our words and ideas seriously other people will, too.

Mercury will be in Capricorn until January 27th when she/he enters Aquarius just in time for the New Moon.

My own Mercury is in Capricorn (third house, 21 degrees, so rocked by 2020's hugely calamitous energies and answering to my third house Saturn in Aquarius which is very tightly conjunct my Sun). I like Mercury in Cappy, but it pays to understand its hunger for rock-solid purpose. Know that the world-view of Mercury Cappy is something like - what good is this thing if it can't be successful? Meaning - credibility built over time, marketed, useful to people. This can be helpful or hurtful. And, this is making me think of my old astrology teacher Michael Lutin, who died a few weeks ago, and who helped me to professionally and personally understand my own chart, and, maybe especially, the 'traps' built into the Mercury in Cappy mindset.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY - the North Node of the Moon - always retrograde - moves into Pisces. The South Node enters Virgo. We talked about this transit in some detail HERE

Mars, retrograde in Cancer, trines dreamy Neptune at the end of Pisces. Notice that Mars gets back to Cancer just as the Nodes change to bring us the GIFT of this water trine. So, now we have the old North Node ruler trining (brakes off - arguably the best aspect in astrology) the brand new North Node ruler.

Water trines are smooth emotional flow. Something about Mars being back in home/family Cancer allows is to float right into the future which is now more uncertain and unfocused, but also less PUSHY and self-focused. Mars sextile to the South Node in Virgo allows us to be more comfortable with certain details and improvements. Family/home issues become gradually - water trines are not fast - easier to handle when we apply Virgo's helping/healing tendencies to real care. Small improvements and fixes are crucial and will bring the NEW DREAMY way forward info focus.

xo all

Trump is an excellent example of what is happening with the repeating Mars/Plutos of 2024 and 2025 (the final one is in April). During the first Mars/Pluto, which was in Cancer/Capricorn in November, Trump was the Mars in Cancer opposing the Pluto in Cappy (the powers that be/the government/big existing power structures, etc). Flash ahead a few weeks - this is all part of a very LONG STORY about the war coming home - and now Mars is in Leo opposing Pluto in Aquarius. Trump is still Mars (now, keep in mind, lots of things are Mars, but his is a big, collective story we can follow, and with his Mars ascendent he is clearly Mars) and now he is returned to his old throne, Leo, (the Presidency and at his palace at Mar Largo receiving guests, gifts and ass-kissing), but now the power he is opposing (which through Pluto is the power to wield both literal and figurative death) is not the government/powers that be, but the actual PEOPLE. This will be playing out in numerous ways through April. Right now, there is the controversy over specialty occupation visas that the people who elected him do not support and he does.

Next week starts off BIG, too - with a Full Moon in Cancer and Sun trine Uranus - home endings and career and goal momentum forward! BREAK-THROUGHS are possible at the end of this week and into next.
